“Blowing out someone else’s candle doesn’t make yours shine any brighter” -Anonymous
I was once an editorial cartoonist in my school during my junior highschool days. Since reports about bullying is fast increasing, Worldwide
So I made an editorial cartoon about the effects of bullying to the victims.
|But first, let us know what is an editorial cartoon
What is Editorial Cartooning?
It consists of two different words, Editorial and cartoon.
Editorial means an article written by an editor that expresses a newspaper's or own opinion on a certain topic or issue.
While Cartoon comes from two words:
Car for caricature - that means drawing of people in which a particular feature is exaggerated.

So basically , Editorial cartooning is an illustration or drawing expressing one’s opinion or interpretation towards a certain topic.
In making an editorial cartoon you must look for these things:
- Symbolism
- Stereotyping
- Exaggeration
- Humor
- Analogy
And the most important, Technical skills.
So here’s my step by step procedure:
1. Think of a concept that would suit the topic “Bullying”.
2. Light sketching
This is important so that if you want to erase something in your cartoon it would be much easier.
Then...
3. Final sketching
In this part, you need to draw the details of you cartoon.
This includes labeling
Then...
4. The inking part 1
In this part, you need to ink your drawing using pens in order to highlight your cartoon.
Then...
5. The inking part 2
In this part, the details of the character in your cartoon will be emphasized.
Then...
6. Shading part
In order to make your cartoon more beautiful, a shading should be applied on your drawing.
Then...
7. Finalizing
This includes finishing touches.
Then...
And there we have it!

Get away from being bullied
According to http://m.kidshealth.org/en/kids/bullies.html?WT.ac=
In order to overcome bullies these are the things you need to do.
- Don't give the bully a chance
As much as you can, avoid the bully. - Stand tall and be brave
- Feel good about you
- Get a buddy (and be a buddy)
Two is better than one if you're trying to avoid being bullied. - Don't bully back
Don't hit, kick, or push back to deal with someone bullying you or your friends. - Don't show your feelings. Plan ahead.
How can you stop yourself from getting angry or showing you're upset? Try distracting yourself (counting backwards from 100, spelling the word 'turtle' backwards, etc.) to keep your mind occupied until you are out of the situation and somewhere safe where you can show your feelings. - Tell an adult
If you are being bullied, it's very important to tell an adult. Find someone you trust and talk about what is happening to you.
BULLYING IS NOT A JOKE, IT IS A SERIOUS MATTER NEED TO BE ADRESSED IMMEDIATELY
