For a long time I have wanted to participate in the contests presented in this prestigious community where I spend many hours delighting myself with the works published by its members that I admit and respect for their valuable work. The truth is that I feel very new to sewing and although I have done some work, I do not feel as skilled at creating content. However, I have filled myself with all the courage and I have decided to participate in what for me would be my first contest. Motivated by the Christmas spirit we breathe and by the pleasant company of my mother, who is a great seamstress, I took advantage of her stay at home to guide me in creating the tablecloth for the table runner, since in the work of the applique I do consider having some experience since I work with foam, felt and other materials, the new thing for me is the incorporation of the needle and the thread.
So with great joy I begin to give you a brief explanation of how I made this table runner that I will give to my mother so that she can wear it next Christmas on the table in her house. Without further ado, let's get started.

Desde hace mucho tiempo he querido participar en los concursos que presentan en esta prestigiosa comunidad donde paso muchas horas deleitándome con los trabajos que publican sus miembros que admito y respeto por su valiosa labor. La verdad es que me siento muy novata en la costura y aunque he realizado algunos trabajos no me siento con tanta destreza para crear contenido. Sin embargo, me he llenado de todo el valor y he decidido participar en el que para mí sería mi primer concurso. Motivada por el espíritu navideño que respiramos y por la grata compañía de mi madre, que es una grandiosa costurera, aproveché su estadía en casa para que me fuera orientando en la creación del mantel para el camino de mesa, ya que en la labor del aplique sí considero tener algo de experiencia ya que trabajo con foami, fieltro y otros materiales, lo nuevo para mí es la incorporación de la aguja y el hilo.
Así que con mucha alegría comienzo a darles una breve explicación de cómo elaboré este camino de mesa que se lo obsequiaré a mi madre para que lo luzca en las próximas navidades en la mesa de su casa. Sin más, comencemos.

PROCESS
I started by making the tablecloth. I made 7 cm wide strips with the pieces of green and red fabric to make the faralao or ruffle that the tablecloth would carry.
PROCEDIMIENTO
Comencé realizando el mantel. Realicé tiras de 7 cm de ancho con los retazos de tela ver y rojo para realizar el faralao o volante que llevaría el mantel.
I joined the four red strips with the corresponding thread making the basting or hemstitching. I did the same procedure with the green strips.
Uní las cuatro tiras rojas con el hilo correspondiente realizando la puntada de hilván o bastilla. El mismo procedimiento lo realicé con las tiras verdes.
Then with the sewing razor I made the hem of the faralao. This razor is the kind that you use to carry in your travel bag for emergencies, so only use it for this procedure. Everything else I did by hand.
The curling of the fabric was done around the edge of the strips using the hem stitch with long stitches that I creased as I sewed.
Luego con la maquinilla de coser realicé el ruedo del faralao. Esta maquinilla es las que utilizan para llevar en el bolso de viaje para emergencias por lo que sólo la utilice para este procedimiento. Todo lo demás lo realicé a mano.
El rizado de la tela lo realicé por todo el borde de las tiras usando el punto de bastilla con puntadas largas que iba arruchando a medida que cosía.
When I had the flyers ready, I proceeded to glue them to the white fabric to form the table runner. I started with the red ruffle using the backstitch stitch. Then I placed the green steering wheel calculating a distance so that it was on the red without taking my eyes off it.
Cuando ya tuve listo los volantes procedí a pegarlos a la tela blanca para formar el camino de mesa. Comencé con el volante rojo utilizando la puntada de pespunte. Luego coloqué el volante verde calculando una distancia para que quedara sobre el rojo sin quitarle vista.
Here I have finished the tablecloth for the table runner. It already looks beautiful, right? Now I will start with the appliques that will finish bringing it to life.
He aquí terminado el mantel para el camino de mesa. Ya se ve hermoso, verdad? Ahora comenzaré con los apliques que terminarán de darle vida.
To make the detail of my table runner I used a pattern that I downloaded with the Pinterest APP, where we can find beauties. I decided on this Santa Claus because he is one of the most emblematic figures of Christmas. I printed the pattern and took out each piece on sheets of paper which I then transferred to the felt with the corresponding colors for each piece.
Para realizar el detalle de mi camino de mesa utilicé un patrón que descargué con la APP Pinterest, donde podemos encontrar bellezas. Me decidí por este Santa Claus porque es una de las figuras mas emblemáticas de la navidad. Imprimí el patrón y saqué cada pieza en hojas de papel que luego transferí al fieltro con los colores correspondientes para cada pieza.
I marked and cut each piece with great care and precision to try to give my piece a good finish.
Marqué y corté cada pieza con mucho cuidado y precisión para intentar darle un buen acabado a mi pieza.
When I had all the chopped pieces, I began to frost the ones that I wanted to shine. I used green glitter and litmus for the snowflakes. And for the cuffs and lapels of the santa suit I used iridescent glitter.
Cuando ya tuve todas las piezas picadas, comencé a escarchas las que quería que brillaran. Utilicé escarcha verde y tornasol para los copos de nieve. Y para los puños y las solapas del traje del santa utilicé escarcha tornasol.
For the hat and the Santa costume I placed sequins and red beads scattered about.
Para el gorro y el traje de Santa coloqué lentejuelas y mostazillas color rojo esparcidas.
Then I put all the pieces together to make the Santa Claus. I used white threads and needle making the basting stitch.
Luego uni todas las piezas para armar el Santa Claus. Utilicé hilos blanco y aguja realizando la puntada de hilván.
I made the nose with pink felt and wadding and glued the crazy eyes with cold silicone.
Realicé la nariz con fieltro rosado y guata y pegué los ojos locos con silicon al fría.
And to finish the appliqué, I sewed the boots to the suit with brown thread and placed sequins and beads around the suit and placed the garland on the hat.
Y para terminar el aplique cosí las botas al traje con hilo marrón y coloqué lentejuelas y mostazillas por el traje y coloqué la guirnalda en el gorro.
When the appliqués were ready, I proceeded to place them on the tablecloth and fix each one with the biscuits to prevent them from rolling during sewing.
I started sewing them to the tablecloth, this time I made the buttonhole stitch because I love the finish it gives to these details.
Ya listos los apliques, procedí a colocarlos sobre el mantel y fijar cada uno con los alfilires para evitar que se rodaran durante la costura.
Comencé a coserlos al mantel, est vez realicé la puntada de punto de ojal porque me encanta el acabado que le da a estos detalles.
And in this way I concluded my table runner. I must say that it was a two-day non-stop job, as my sewing ability is slow and what I chose for my first contest was a personal challenge. He wanted to show me that when we set goals and achieve them with love and perseverance, anything is possible. I also want to thank my mother for the knowledge she contributed from her and my nephew and this large community that thanks to her publications I have also learned about sewing. My next challenge will be to crochet.

Y de esta manera concluí mi camino de mesa. Debo decir que fue una labor de dos días sin parar, ya que mi habilidad para la costura es lenta y lo escogí para mi primer concurso fue un reto personal. Quería demostrarme que cuando nos proponemos metas y las realizamos con amor y perseverancia, todo es posible. También quiero agradecer a mi madre por sus conocimientos aportados y a mi sobrino y a esta comunidad tan grande que gracias a sus publicaciones también he aprendido sobre costuras.
