Dearest young Liza,
So you think you know it all at the ripe old age of 15 don’t you? Mom and Dad really don’t know what goes on in the world do they?
You started wearing spectacles just last year from those 2am marathon reading sessions as those books were just too good to put down.
Those rose-tinted spectacles showed a world full of wonders but sometimes fell from up high to a rocky hard place and were broken into hundreds of little pieces. You were so blessed to have them mended in no time by the dearest wisest uncle who was more like an older brother!
Back then, your head stayed mostly in the clouds, and I really do not begrudge you any of those dreams, but would your spectacles have become tainted if you knew then what I know now?
I should hope not!
Keep on believing in the good of people; as what you gave, jumped right back at you, most times. The hardest nut was often cracked by putting yourself in their shoes, and so you managed to bring out the best in most of the people that crossed your path.
I don’t want you to change any of that nor crush your enthusiasm for life by warning you of some of the tragedies that you will still have to face.
Remember when you made that funky pair of bell bottom pants with Mom’s leftover upholstery fabric and you invited your friends in for a cup of coffee at the end of the evening? Of course as you walked into the living room, you realized your folly – you blended in perfectly as you sat down on the couch!
Your funky bell bottoms ended up on the scrap heap but you and your best friend still laugh about that night!
What is my advice to you now?
Never stop believing in yourself, follow your dreams, don’t take life so seriously, continue playing the piano and just be yourself, and most important lesson is not to let anyone take away your zest for life!
I miss your youth and energy and am sorry I could not protect you from the hurts but I’m proud of how you always made the best of any situation.
