Are you looking for a world-class beach yet affordable? A one of a kind and different ambient in our malls and café in the city? If yes, then let me introduce to you the younger version of Boracay and Palawan in Luzon Philippines, the Calaguas Island in Camarines Norte. However, before anything else I need to warn you, are you ready in a back-to-basic adventure experience in Calaguas Island?
What to enjoy in Calaguas?
The accessible and budget friendly trip
With the help of the travel agency, Bakasyonista who help us to arranged our trip in the Island for a budget of less than 100 USD for 3 days and 2 nights. Included our transportation, our camp tent (no hotel room) and meal with lots of fresh seafoods, boat transfer, snorkeling, life vest, environmental fee and the entrance fee.
The Back to basic experience
Yes, you heard it right. For it was indeed a literally back to basic, as in no electricity only solar power generator, no convenience store, no potable water, no hotel room, no cellular and no data signal. All you need to do is to enjoy the scenery, which was way way more worth it of being stuck in nowhere in the island. It was very fun because we experience how to camp and night party in a provincial way.
The breathtaking scenery
As we headed in the island, what I can say was love at the first sight is undeniably real. The aquamarine water there was crystal clear as the sky above that time, long shore has a very fine sand equivalent in the sand of Boracay. God is good for creating a paradise where common people can easily go.
We also experience the trekking in beside Island, which was known as the mini New Zealand of the Philippines. Once you get the top, you can proudly shout “I am a proud Filipino!”.
Surfing lesson
Well surfing was just a bonus; it is actually not part of Calaguas but in the Bagasbas Island also located in Camarines Norte. Surfing lesson was also incuded in our 100 USD budget.
Newfound friends
In this vacation trip, we gain many new friends since we had no gadgets or social media to be busy with. We have no choice but to socialize with our tent neighborhood and it really added spice in our trip, more enjoyable. Like the popular sayings “the more the merrier”. And until now, we were still friends and we still had communication even though we came in a different hometown because of the bonding we had in Calaguas.
Calaguas Island tips
As I said earlier, you can go in calaguas in a cheaper budget, but remember that calaguas is already one of the tourist spot in the Philippines so expect that it is crowded when you go there in weekend and holidays. My tip is schedule your vacation there in weekdays. And since your trip will be going on a camp trip, don’t forget to bring the following:
- Flash light
- Beach blanket
- Beach towels
- Power bank
- Selfie stick
- Waterproof cellphone case
- Camera (So you can captured the beauty of Calaguas Island)
- Hygiene Kit
- First Aid kit
- Mosquito repellant
- Portable Fan
- Sunblock
- Candies (It’s a must in case you get dizzy in the boat transfer like I did)
- Plastic for your bags (You will be needed it to protect your baggage form the splash of the water in the boat)
Hope this will help you in planning your next travel. Calaguas Island is worth of trying and a solid evidence that God created us a beautiful paradise to live in. YOLO!
