Surely the Passetto is a very iconic area of the city of Ancona with its monument, its staircase, its parks and the sea where the inhabitants can spend beautiful days in a relaxing place a few steps from the city center
MONUMENT TO THE VICTIM OF FIRST WORLD WAR
The monument was designed by the Ancona architect Guido Cirilli and was built between the end of the 1920s and the 1930s before being inaugurated in 1932.
For the construction of the monument the particular Istrian stone was used, a type of compact and limestone rock coming from the area called Istria located in present-day Croatia.
You can reach this area easily on foot from the city center for those arriving by train or ship or even using public transport such as buses.
For those coming by car it is possible to park near the monument.
The Passetto area is at the end of a very famous tree-lined avenue where the inhabitants of the area take long walks called "Viale della Vittoria"
VIALE DELLA VITTORIA
Once you arrive at the monument you have near the staircase that leads directly to the sea, to a beautiful pine forest and to the lift that leads directly to the sea that can be used by those who do not want or cannot walk the staircase.
The pine forest is very beautiful and fresh, equipped with benches from which you can relax in the shade or sit at the bar enjoying something while admiring the beautiful panorama of the sea, the sky and nature ...
During the hottest days, the people of the city and neighboring towns of Ancona find cool in the shelter of this pine forest.
THE PINE FOREST
The lift allows quick access to the beach and houses a bar / restaurant on its top floor where you can have a drink or eat something with a unique view towards the promontory of Mount Conero.
THE LIFT
On the lower floor, at sea level, there is a wooden platform that also allows people with disabilities or those with small children with pushchairs to get close to the sea.
As we said, the other method to go down to the sea and the beaches is the characteristic staircase that from near the monument descends directly to a large terrace from where you can have a beautiful panoramic view of the sea.
Often the terrace is frequented by people who stop to think while admiring the sea, the seagulls and the fishermen's boats.
From here you can smell the sea...
SEA WIEW TERRACE
This scenic area was called "Belvedere Virna Lisi", in honor of the great Italian and international actress born in Ancona and died in 2014
BELVEDERE VIRNA LISI
After stopping for a while to admire the view from the terrace you can continue the staircase towards the sea.
In fact, on the sides of the terrace, the staircase takes a curved shape and ends a few meters from the sea.
Often in summer the inhabitants use to lie down on the walls on the sides of the staircase to stay in the sun.
THE STAIRCASE
Once you reach the sea you can take a walk admiring the characteristic rocks and the clear water of the sea.
Walking both north and south you can admire the ancient caves still used today by fishermen to keep their equipment
The city of Ancona is not only this, Ancona is millenary history, good food, traditions, an important port .... but this is certainly a beautiful part of the city
