Hello Steemit Friends,
I'm going to start my daily blogs by starting with various fun facts. Today's topic is how water is beneficial to our bodies.
When we think of survival, the first thing that comes to mind are food, oxygen, and water. While it's true that we would be dead in a matter of minutes if we didn't have oxygen, most of us know that water is actually more beneficial to us than food. We can survive weeks at a time without food, but only mere days without water because of its importance on our bodies.
General studies have shown that humans need a certain amount of water to be consumed each day in order to survive. Men need roughly 3 liters per day while women can survive off 2.2 liters. Not all of this has to be drank, as some water actually comes from the food we consume.
Our bodies are up to 60% water as adults. Did you know that our brain and heart is roughly 73% water?
Here are some things water do for our bodies.
- It helps form saliva that's needed for digesting our food
- It allows our body to reproduce cells in order to remain healthy
- Water acts as a lubricant for our joints
- Helps by delivering oxygen all over our bodies
Wow! Who knew that water played such an important role in our bodies, acting as an intermediary between all of the tasks it is assigned to perform by our bodies.
You may be asking yourself what role does water play in our ability to survive? Well, water has surface tension which allows it to transport proteins and carbohydrates all over our body wherever its needed most. Here, the bloodstream can metabolize the food so our body can absorb it - allowing us to survive.
As we all know, water is vital to our health. Without it, life as we know it wouldn't exist on Earth. Thank you for taking the time to view a fun fact, I hope you learned why water is so vital to our health.
