They Donât Shy Away From Change

To Change Or Not To Change
Many people shy away from changes that can drastically improve their lives. See if any of the following apply to you:
- Justifying bad habits by convincing yourself that theyâre not that bad.
- You experience anxiety about a change of routine.
- Even in a difficult situation, you worry that change will make things worse.
- You struggle to stick with change.
- You struggle to adapt to change in others.
- Procrastination.
- Worry that change wonât last.
- Stepping outside comfort zone is just too scary.
- Too hard to make positive change
- Make excuses to not change
- Difficult recalling the last time you did change
- Donât want to commit to change.
Choosing to do something different requires you to adapt your thinking and your behavior, which will likely bring up some uncomfortable emotions. But that doesnât mean you should shy away. we shy away because it is uncomfortable to change. Putting in action steps towards creating change can help and maintaining that change to make it more concrete.
Why Do We Avoid Change
- Fear of discomfort. Draw out the pros and cons of the change. Get really deep. Facing this reality can give you the motivation you need to change. The cons it could have for the rest of your life if you donât change, for example.
- Fear of change in identity: doing something different means giving something up. Grief of a change of what we used to do and who we used to be. Avoiding this grief can convince us not to change.
Problem With Shying Away From Change
- Stuck in a rut. Not changing makes your life boring and monotonous.
- You wonât learn anything new. You wonât be expanding and learning more about life and risk life leaving you behind.
- You wonât solve some problems. Change can solve these problems.
- People will outgrow you.
- You wont develop new, healthier habits.
- The longer you wait, the harder it gets. Like quitting smoking, is it easier after 1 cigarette or 20 years of it? The perfect time to change may never arise.
If you start by changing your life, you can being to make a difference in the lives of other people. Mother Teresa said, âI alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripplesâ.
Behave Like The Person You Want To Be
If you want to be more outgoing, behave in a more friendly manner. If you want to be a successful salesperson, study how successful salespeople behave and do what they do.
You donât necessarily have to wait until you feel like it or until the right time comes; start changing your behaviour now.
Sometime change results in a complete transformation that could alter the entire course of your life. So often, when people change one area of their life, such as pay off debt, then they are changing multiple areas of life, like losing weight. Positive change increase motivation and more motivation leads to increased change.
Helpful:
- Review the pros and cons of making a change and the pros and cons of staying the same.
- Committing to behaving like the person you want to become.
Not Helpful:
- Ignoring and/or avoiding change.
- Making excuses for why you canât do anything different.
- Only focusing on the negative aspect of change.
- Waiting until you feel like creating change.
