A bit of raw #foodphotography today, we're having the perfect weather this year for mushrooms. With as much rain as we're having they are growing almost constantly. I'm not a huge fan of them, but every now and then they are great to spice up the normal food menu a little.
They are great with potato or rice and make such boring foods a bit more delicious :) Not to mention soups and sauces or as a spice for almost everything. I've picked a few this weekend again, but these photos are from a while ago.
We pick only a couple kinds of mushrooms as none of us is an expert, only the ones we're sure in and know how to prepare them. "Jurček" in our language, or penny bun or porcini in English is one of them that is very widespread and delicious in soups or used as a spice. These two brought a smile to my face as they look exactly like in a cartoon :) It was almost a shame to pick them.
Most of the bounty from that day. Another one is "lisička" ("little fox" in translation, hehe) or chanterelle in English. These are my favourite. They are getting quite rarer than they used to be though, they were everywhere when I was little. More and more people scour the woods and carry out whole baskets of mushrooms, so often we really have to look hard to find any left. Which is kind of a shame as we live here, but a good walk in the fresh forest air does us only good, hehe.
There are more, but I don't have any good photos. And always remember, if you are not 100% sure what mushroom it is, don't pick it up. Mushroom poisoning is common and can be very serious. It's very easy to mistake one kind for another.
Well, let that be enough for today. I hope you had a good start of the week, and as always have a very nice day.
