"You only live once!"
This phrase sounds like advice. It tells you to be brave take chances and live life to the fullest.. Maybe that's what it meant at first.
Over time YOLO became an excuse. Its used to justify doing whatever you want spending all your money hurting others and calling it living.
I think it's really destructive.
I see people my age spending money they don't have on things that won't matter in a months. They just want to fit in or look good. They buy clothes go out and care about appearances. All to keep up with what they see on media.. They call it living.. I think its just pretending!
I see people chasing fun hard that they don't care who gets hurt. They put their family, friends and future on the backburner. They say, "You only live once so why hold back?"
Whats disturbing is how selfish people have become. Some people say your happiness is important. That's fine.. Others say only your happiness matters.. That's not the same thing.
YOLO forgets that your choices have consequences. The debt doesn't disappear after the fun. The bridges you burn don't fix themselves. The time you waste chasing the things doesn't come back. You don't just live once the consequences of your actions also follow later. Real freedom comes from making choices not from living recklessly. It's about knowing what's worth chasing. Whats a mistake.
Most people don't listen to lectures. I don't lecture I ask questions. What happens next? Is this building something. Just feeling good right now? I often ask myself these questions, not others.
I try to set an example. Waiting till you can afford something is not boring. Thinking before you spend act or speak is not being perfect. It just means you have a plan for your life beyond tonight.
For the people, around me I show them that interesting people aren't those who act on impulse. They're the ones who build something quietly while others show off.
YOLO isn't the enemy. Its misuse is. I'm still young. I enjoy life. I understand the desire to experience everything now.
There's a good version of YOLO. It means being intentional. Don't waste your life. Make sure you're living the life you want not just reacting to pressure and trends.
Not the version that leaves people broke, burnt out and with connections. We can let that one go. Lets build something impactful.
You only live once. So make it count for something
