Cuando la imaginación se desborda, aparecen y crecen las alas del ser humano creativo. Esto le permite volar al infinito y crear. Este vuelo se convierte en poema, novela, cuento y muchas otras expresiones de amor a la literatura. Algunas veces el vuelo es impulsado por otra persona que se da cuenta del potencial. A estas personas las llamo “especiales” porque tienen un don y sensibilidad que les hace ser diferentes. Y cuando leen un poema, tu alma es capaz de vibrar de la emoción, pues tienen una voz cantarina.
Esta voz la tenía mi mami cuando se metía en el mundo que amaba, el de los libros y la lectura. Hablaba con una emoción que no dejaba dudas. Me parece verla allí sentada con sus piernas cruzadas y un café. “Especial”, sí, porque me dio amor, inculcó y enseñó todo lo que soy. Sobre todo, me inició en el mundo de la lectura, a amar a los libros y a entender que un libro es el arma más letal contra la ignorancia. Desde que aprendí a leer, mi madre me ponía a leerle el periódico o una revista de Selecciones y analizar el artículo.
Ese gusanito por la verdad, búsqueda de información y preguntadora cuando algo no me convence lo heredé de mi mami. Entre mis curiosidades estaba saber por qué abuelita Bertita’s decía que los poetas, escritores, pintores y otros eran ¡Loco ‘e perinola!. Para ella, el que no estudiaba ni obtenía un título no era nadie en la vida. Así como ella, la sociedad imponía lo mismo. Por supuesto, esto ha cambiado mucho y se ha demostrado que un título no asegura el éxito.
Escribir es algo que todas las personas no son capaces de hacer, porque es algo que se desarrolla y que las hace ser sensibles, intuitivas, y permite que sean más creativas. Escribir un libro no es cualquier cosa.
Un libro es para mí como una piscina de conocimiento donde cada vez me sumerjo en otro mundo; encuentro respuesta y conozco personajes inolvidables. Particularmente, me fascina leer y me concentro de tal manera que me olvido de todo a mí alrededor. Siento que soy un personaje más creado por la pluma del escritor.
Beckyta, mi ratoncita de biblioteca, amiguis inseparable, ama a los libros tanto como yo. Leímos juntas el primer libro que nos regalaron, “Platero y yo” de Juan Ramón Jiménez. Ella también lee todo lo que llega a sus manos. Para nosotras el 23 es un día muy significativo, pues se celebra el Día Mundial del Libro, del Derecho de Autor y del habla hispana. Se hace referencia a tres grandes de la literatura: Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare e Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. La tertulia sobre libros y escritores es una de mis pasiones.
Todos los libros que han pasado por mis manos me han dejado un legado de amor. Quizás piensen que estoy loca, pero a muchos la sociedad ha tildado de locos y, sin embargo, han sido capaces de grandes hazañas y de crear grandes obras en todos los ámbitos: tecnología, medicina, ciencia, música y en las artes. Creo que todos los seres humanos tienen un toque de locura que les permite poner a volar su imaginación y ser más creativos.
¡Loco ‘e perinola! o imaginación desbordada
¡Loco! La mayor locura del ser humano es creer en algo que no sabe si es cierto, pero es única la verdad que conoce. Si es cierto o no, no importa. Así vemos supuestos locos en el mundo, pero que quizás estén más cuerdos que muchos. En cuanto a la literatura, encontramos escritores, poetas, cuentistas, entre otros. Aunque no lo crean, algunos han sido considerados locos, pero han logrado transformar vidas con sus escritos.
Considero que el principal loco de la literatura fue Miguel de Cervantes; es mi escritor más querido. Aunque aparentemente fue un hombre centrado, fue capaz de darle vida a Alfonso Quijano o “Caballero de la triste figura”.
Un personaje que para muchos es un “¡Loco ‘e perinola!”, sin embargo, para mí fue la falta de amor y la soledad en la que vivía, que lo impulsó a cometer locuras hasta llegar al delirio. Con Alfonso Quijano, Miguel de Cervantes logró ser el más grande escritor de su época y el más importante en la historia de la humanidad. ¿Y cuándo a mí me preguntan cuál es mi libro preferido y personaje más emblemático? Enseguida mi mente vuela y encuentra esa famosa frase:
“En un lugar de la Mancha, de cuyo nombre no quiero acordarme…” Y veo ahí frente a mí, sonriéndome, a mi amor Alfonzo Quijano, y en esos momentos soy su Dulcinea del Toboso. Oh la la
La frase de inicio de mi novela preferida: “El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha” es emblemática y no creo que haya en el mundo alguien que no la conozca. Pues, es una joya de la literatura universal. Cervantes fue un escritor con una imaginación tan especial que le permitió alzar el vuelo y crear personajes y situaciones por las cuales atraviesan Alfonzo Quijano y hacen de esta novela insuperable en su género. Alonso Quijano se sumergió en su mundo de caballeros con armaduras, buscando aventuras y salvando damas en peligro. De tal manera que lo llevó al delirio y perdió todo lo que tenía. Así como él, conozco a muchos. En fin, si permito a Beckyta hablar de todo lo que ha leído en nuestra vida, no va a terminar nunca. Sobre todo, de su amor por Miguel de Cervantes y de su caballero de la triste figura, pues ella lo conoce muy bien. Lo siguió de cerca en todas sus andanzas y desde que leyó su primer libro de caballería.

When imagination overflows, the wings of the creative human being appear and grow. This allows them to soar to infinity and create. This was the voice my mother had when she immersed herself in the world she loved: books and reading. She spoke with an emotion that left no room for doubt. I can almost see her there, sitting with her legs crossed and a cup of coffee. "Special," yes, because she gave me love, instilled in me, and taught me everything I am. Above all, she introduced me to the world of reading, to a love of books, and to the understanding that a book is the most lethal weapon against ignorance. From the moment I learned to read, my mother would have me read the newspaper or a Reader's Digest to her and analyze the article.

Among my curiosities was knowing why Grandma Bertita said that poets, writers, painters, and others were "crazy as hell!" For her, anyone who didn't study or get a degree was nobody in life. Like her, society imposed the same view. Of course, things have changed a lot, and it's been proven that a degree doesn't guarantee success.
Writing is something not everyone is capable of, because it's a skill that develops and fosters sensitivity, intuition, and creativity. Writing a book is no small feat.
A book is like a pool of knowledge for me, where I immerse myself in another world each time; I find answers and meet unforgettable characters. I'm particularly fascinated by reading, and I concentrate so deeply that I forget everything around me. I feel like I'm another character created by the writer's pen.
Beckyta, my bookworm and inseparable friend, loves books as much as I do. We read together the first book we were given, "Platero and I" by Juan Ramón Jiménez. She also reads everything she can get her hands on. For us, the 23rd is a very significant day, as it's World Book Day, World Copyright Day, and Spanish Language Day. It commemorates three literary giants: Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare, and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. Discussing books and writers is one of my passions.
Every book that has passed through my hands has left me with a legacy of love. Perhaps you think I'm crazy, but society has labeled many as crazy, and yet they have been capable of great feats and created great works in all fields: technology, medicine, science, music, and the arts. I believe that all human beings have a touch of madness that allows them to let their imaginations soar and be more creative.
¡Loco ‘e perinola! or overflowing imagination
Crazy! The greatest madness a human being can experience is believing in something they don't know is true, yet the truth they know is the only one. Whether it's true or not doesn't matter. We see so-called madmen in the world, but perhaps they're saner than many. In literature, we find writers, poets, short story writers, and others. Believe it or not, some have been considered mad, yet they've managed to transform lives with their writing.
I believe that the greatest madman in literature was Miguel de Cervantes; he is my most beloved writer. Although he appeared to be a level-headed man, he was able to bring to life Alfonso Quijano, or the "Knight of the Sorrowful Countenance."
A character that many consider a complete lunatic, however, for me, it was the lack of love and the loneliness in which he lived that drove him to commit acts of madness, ultimately leading to delirium. With Alfonso Quijano, Miguel de Cervantes became the greatest writer of his time and the most important in the history of humankind. And when I'm asked what my favorite book and most iconic character are, my mind immediately wanders to that famous phrase:
“In a village of La Mancha, the name of which I do not wish to recall…” And there before me I see, smiling at me, my love Alfonso Quijano, and in those moments I am his Dulcinea of Toboso. Oh la la.
The opening line of my favorite novel, "The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quijote of La Mancha," is iconic, and I don't think there's anyone in the world who doesn't know it. It's a jewel of world literature. Cervantes was a writer with such a unique imagination that it allowed him to take flight and create characters and situations that Alfonso Quijano experiences, making this novel unsurpassed in its genre. Alonso Quijano immersed himself in his world of knights in armor, seeking adventures and rescuing damsels in distress. This led him to madness, and he lost everything he had. Like him, I know many others. Anyway, if I let Beckyta talk about everything she's read in our lives, she'll never finish. Especially about her love for Miguel de Cervantes and his knight of the sorrowful countenance, because she knows him very well. She followed him closely in all his adventures, ever since she read her first book of chivalry.

Mi querido y amado, Gabo o Gabriel García Márquez. Quizás sea el más loquito de todos los que he conocido. Fue uno de los más grandes de la literatura y máximo representante del realismo mágico en Latinoamérica. Desde su nacimiento trae sangre de escritor en las venas. Llegó al mundo con su pluma y una mariposa amarilla en las manos. Su mente creativa creó el mundo famoso de “Macondo”, a Úrsula Iguarán y José Arcadio Buendía, la pareja que da inicio a esta famosa novela “Cien años de soledad”.
Esta novela de Gabo se publicó en el año 1967, y ganó el premio Nobel de Literatura en el año 1982. J.M Sadurní publicó un artículo en la página historia.nationalgeographic.com.es, titulado: “Gabriel García Márquez, el maestro del realismo mágico”, donde indica:

A veces me pregunto por qué unos escritores lo logran y otros no. Pues, yo tengo la respuesta: es la imaginación e intuición. Quizás algo tan simple como ver a una pareja bajarse de un tren desencadenó la historia. Abrió las puertas de algo que tenía muy escondido y decidió darle alas y poner a volar a la mariposa amarilla que traía desde su nacimiento en su mano. Y esto le permitió a la familia Buendía fundar Macondo.
Me imagino a mi amigo Lewis Carroll, fastidiado, tirándole piedras al río; bajo el árbol de manzano, miró al cielo y, de repente, salió de la nada un conejo a correr y detrás la niña de pelo color del sol y trenzado. Tomó su pluma y describió el país de las maravillas, y exclamó:
—Alicia, el mundo la conocerá como Alicia.
Si Lewis Carroll fue un loco de perinola, no lo sé. Pero de que estuvo allí y lo plasmó en su cuaderno, es cierto. Pues el libro “Alicia en el país de las maravillas” lo tuve en mis manos y me sumergí en este mundo maravilloso que él creó y quedé fascinada. Ya no recuerdo las veces que lo he leído.
En este mismo sentido y hablando de locuras, siempre me he preguntado qué habrán sentido las editoriales cuando rechazaron la novela de Harry Potter y la piedra filosofal. De la británica J. K. Rowling. Después de que la novela se convirtió en un éxito total. Convirtiéndose en un best seller, y ellos perdieron esa oportunidad y millones de dólares. Quizás dijeron que era una historia sin sentido y hasta la hicieron pasar por loca. ¡Imagínense! Ustedes una mujer con la mente más creativa del mundo moderno y que fue capaz de crear un mundo mágico.
En fin, creo que hay un elemento o ingrediente especial que dota a una persona de cualidades o de alas que le permiten lograr cosas inimaginables y maravillosas. Con su crear mundos, planetas y personajes fuera de lo común e inolvidables. Para mí es un toque de locura que los hace diferentes unos de otros. A todos ellos les rindo un pequeño y emotivo homenaje por ser parte de mi vida y hacerme soñar, reír y creer en que todo es posible si se hace con amor y pasión.
A todos los escritores, a mis ¡Loco ‘e perinola!, que con su mente e imaginación desbordada dejaron a la humanidad grandes obras que perdurarán en el tiempo. A todos y cada uno de ellos que tocaron una fibra de mi ser y que es imposible en una publicación hablar de todos. A quienes la UNESCO les ha dedicado el 23 de abril como Día Mundial del Libro, para conmemorarlos y homenajearlos.

Writers: Crazy, Intuitive, and Creative.
My dear and beloved Gabo, or Gabriel García Márquez. Perhaps he's the craziest of all I've ever known. He was one of the greatest writers and the foremost representative of magical realism in Latin America. From birth, he had writer's blood in his veins. He came into the world with his pen and a yellow butterfly in his hands. His creative mind created the famous world of "Macondo," Úrsula Iguarán, and José Arcadio Buendía, the couple who kick off the famous novel "One Hundred Years of Solitude."
This novel by Gabo was published in 1967, and won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982. J.M. Sadurní published an article on the website historia.nationalgeographic.com.es, titled: “Gabriel García Márquez, the master of magical realism”, where he states:

Sometimes I wonder why some writers succeed and others don't. Well, I have the answer: it's imagination and intuition. Perhaps something as simple as seeing a couple get off a train sparked the story. It opened the doors to something he had kept hidden, and he decided to give wings and set free the yellow butterfly he had carried in his hand since birth. And this allowed the Buendía family to found Macondo.
I imagine my friend Lewis Carroll, annoyed, throwing stones into the river; under the apple tree, he looked at the sky and, suddenly, a rabbit appeared out of nowhere, running, followed by the girl with sun-colored, braided hair. He took his pen and described Wonderland, and exclaimed:
-“Alice, the world will know her as Alice”.
Whether Lewis Carroll was a madman, I don't know. But that he was there and captured it in his notebook, that's for sure. I held the book "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" in my hands and immersed myself in this marvelous world he created, and I was captivated. I've lost count of how many times I've read it.
Along the same lines, and speaking of crazy things, I've always wondered what the publishers must have felt when they rejected Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling. After the novel became a massive success, a bestseller, they lost out on that opportunity and millions of dollars. Perhaps they said it was a nonsensical story and even dismissed her as crazy. Imagine that! You, a woman with the most creative mind in the modern world, capable of creating a magical world.
In short, I believe there's a special element or ingredient that endows a person with qualities or wings that allow them to achieve unimaginable and wonderful things. With their ability to create extraordinary and unforgettable worlds, planets, and characters. For me, it's a touch of madness that makes them all different. To each of them, I pay a small and heartfelt tribute for being part of my life and making me dream, laugh, and believe that everything is possible if done with love and passion.
To all writers, to my beloved "Crazy Perinola!", who with their boundless minds and imaginations left humanity great works that will endure through time. To each and every one of them who touched a fiber of my being, and whom it is impossible to mention in a single publication. To whom UNESCO has dedicated April 23rd as World Book Day, to commemorate and honor them.

Creo que el secreto de lograr grandes hazañas es el toque de locura que permite a algunas personas volar, echar andar la imaginación y ser más creativas.
