Just 20 minutes out of town, we had escaped the urban jungle and found ourselves in this bucolic rural landscape in northern Thailand.
Rise with the Sun
When our language school gave us the chance to go on a “field trip,” many of us students jumped at the chance to get out of the city. By 8:00 a.m. on the day of the trip, we were well out of the city and strolling through rice paddies. It was a fine and early start to what would turn out to be an interesting and pleasant morning.
Rustic al fresco dining
The farmers told us a bit about rice-growing, and then gave us the chance to practice some rice-planting. When we compared our sub-standard results with those of the experts, one can only say that we needed more practice.
But instead, they sent us off to lunch – most likely to get us out of the way of the real rice-planters.
So, we ended our excursion with some excellent cuisine at a rustic al fresco lakeside restaurant. The food was mostly local fare, all of which was fresh and tasty – definitely worthy of a starry restaurant.
