Hello to all you cat lovers, and to all the “Karens” out there who had the brilliant idea of adopting a kitten—because even though they’re mischievous, they also bring us moments of joy and tenderness.
My kitten Aramis is a little over 3 years old now, and it’s only recently that we’ve noticed she’s gotten a bit chubby—just as many people told us would happen after she was spayed, even though that was a couple of years ago.
Now she really does look like a tri-colored ball of fluff that falls asleep anywhere in the house, and if there’s something new, she’s obviously the first to test it out with a nice nap on top of it.
In addition to being the official tester of new objects, she also likes to “hunt” shadows—whether they appear on their own or are cast by my kids on the walls when we have the lights on at night. It’s funny to watch her try to catch them, and sometimes we don’t even notice until we see her running back and forth, trying to catch them.
Lately, she’s been asking for cuddles from me before bed, and she’s on the lookout for when I finish dinner, because she climbs onto my lap and lies down on the left side of my torso, purring as I pet her, to the point of falling asleep almost instantly, using me as if I were a super-comfortable pillow.
She’s also more inclined to play with my youngest son, from whom she used to run away in terror when she was still a kitten. Now she lets him pet her, and even plays along when he places things for her to balance.
And although we sometimes have trouble with her waking-up and eating schedules—since my oldest son got her used to eating in the early morning, right before going to sleep—she now goes to bed earlier, which means she asks me for food at 4 or 5 a.m. Other than that, the whole family gets along peacefully every day.

Hola a todos los amantes de los felinos, y a las karens que a bien tuvimos la idea de adoptar a un gatito, pues aunque son traviesos, también nos dan momentos de alegría y ternura.
Mi gatita Aramis ya tiene un poco más de 3 años, y ahora recién es que la vemos que se ha puesto gordita, como nos comentaron muchos que pasaría luego de esterilizarla, aunque eso fue hace ya un par de años atrás.
Ahora si parece una mota tricolor que se duerme en cualquier lugar random de la casa, y si hay algo nuevo, pues obviamente ella es la primera en probarlo con una buena siesta sobre eso.
Además de ser catadora oficial de objetos nuevos, también le gusta "cazar" sombras que se producen solas o que mis hijos le hacen en las paredes cuando estamos con las luces encendidas por las noches. Es divertido verla tratando de agarrarlas, y a veces no nos damos cuenta de eso, hasta que la vemos correr de un lado a otro, queriendo atraparlas.
Últimamente, está pidiendo mimos de mi parte antes de dormir, y anda pendiente para cuando termino de cenar, pues se sube en mi regazo y se acuesta en el lado izquierdo de mi torso, ronroneando mientras la acaricio, hasta el punto de quedarse dormida casi instantáneamente, teniéndome como si fuera una almohada súper cómoda.
También está más dada a jugar con mi hijo menor, de quien huía despavorida cuando todavía era una bebé. Ahora se deja acariciar por él, y hasta le sigue el juego cuando le coloca cosas para que las mantenga en equilibrio.
Y aunque a veces tenemos problemas con el asunto de sus horarios de levantarse y comer, pues mi hijo mayor la acostumbró a darle comida de madrugada, antes de irse a dormir, y ahora se acuesta más temprano, lo que hace que ella me pida comer a las 4 ó 5 am, del resto, la manada convive en paz a diario.
