The Portuguese architect Frederico Valsassina, a native of Lisbon, was commissioned by the estate Herdade do Freixo to design their winery.
To minimize the impact of the landscape and give the wine an optimal temperature, the architect decided to bury a major part of the building. The interior architecture is monumental and minimalist whose centerpiece is the spiral walkway reminiscent of a corkscrew and connects the different levels.
