Vladimir Putin was elected for President of the Russian Federation for the fourth term on the 18th of March
To be honest, I hadn't even realized there was an upcoming presidential election in Russia. It was so clear that Putin was going to be re-elected whenever the election was to be held. Putin (ran as an independent) got 76.7% of the vote, Pavel Grudinin (Communist Party) got 11.8% and Vladimir Zhirinovsky (Liberal Democratic Party of Russia) got 5.7%.
End of facts. Discussion follows.
Out of these three, Grudinin was known not be popular enough and Zhirinovsky is an eternal also-ran. It will be interesting to see how Putin will stay on top. He was born in 1952 and will turn 66 this year. If the constitution is not changed after this term, someone else will have to take the presidency for the following four years. Putin almost certain to be elected again in 2026 and 2030. In 2034 he will be 82. I predict that Putin will retire in 2034. A younger protege will take his place and continue Putin's legacy. Of course, something might happen. But who knows.
There is one big good thing to be said about Putin. He has a positive view of cryptocurrencies.
