Today I went, with my daughter and Rosa, to the Teatro de la Ópera de Maracay (TOM). We enjoyed the staging "Florentino and the Devil" Legend; by the Venezuelan composer, Alberto Arvelo Torrealba. I love theater, symphonic music, dance and I love enjoying an evening at TOM. I must tell you that this time I enjoyed art at its best because they were on stage; musicians from Aragua state Symphonic Orchestras System, actors and actresses from Aragua state Dramatic Art School and dancers from Aragua state Dance School, all in action. With them, the ballad singers who represented Florentino and the Devil.

Florentino and the Devil Legend is a poem written in 1940, which deals with opposing and existential themes, such as life and death. In this poem the author talks about good and evil. Florentino personifies life and death is the Devil. The legend is recreated on a rainy night where several people from the town remember; that on a night like that, the Devil challenged to Florentino, the ballad singer who improvised his verses as if he were speaking from the soul. Tonight, the girls from Aragua state Dramatic Art School start the dialogue where they talk about that rainy night and how nervous they are because their husbands haven't come home from work. Their husbands arrive and comment that they couldn't make any day because of the heavy rain and they begin to say that Venancio is needed to tell them what happened the night in which the Devil challenged Florentino to improvise verses. Whoever won would live. If the Devil won, he would take Florentino's soul. If Florentino won, the Devil would languish in darkness forever. This is how Venancio begins to narrate what happened that night. At that moment begins the counterpoint of improvised verses between Florentino and the Devil. All the counterpoint music is masterly executed by the Aragua State Symphony Orchestra System.
He is the one who narrates what happens between Florentino and the Devil that rainy night
