Greetings everyone, and welcome to my blog. It is another wonderful opportunity to listen to the word of God through His servant, Bro. Eli Soriano.
Many people believe that Jesus Christ died on Friday and rose on Sunday morning, but a closer study of the Scriptures presents another perspective. According to the Bible, Jesus Himself said He would be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights (Matthew 12:40). For this prophecy to be fulfilled exactly, it suggests that His crucifixion happened earlier than Friday.
From studying Matthew 28:1-6, it becomes clear that when Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to the tomb at the end of the Sabbath, Jesus had already risen. The angel clearly told them, “He is not here; for He is risen, as He said.” This indicates that His resurrection had already taken place before the women arrived early on the first day of the week.
This understanding supports the view that Jesus may have died on Wednesday afternoon and was buried before sunset, allowing a complete three days and three nights in the tomb—Thursday, Friday, and Saturday—before rising at the close of the Sabbath. This aligns perfectly with His prophecy.
Another important point is that among the Jews, not every Sabbath falls on a Saturday. There are annual or special Sabbaths that can occur on different days, which helps explain the timeline more clearly.
This teaching reminds us of the importance of studying the Bible carefully and allowing Scripture to interpret Scripture. Our faith should be rooted in God’s Word, not merely in traditions or popular beliefs. Understanding the death and resurrection of Jesus correctly strengthens our confidence in the accuracy and truth of God’s Word.
