There's this thing most of us grew up with, and it is that with hard work, success is sure. Just don't be lazy. It was like a law you just have to stick to... As if, if you stick to it then success is guaranteed
And just like many of us, we believed it. I was so serious in school then, my dad happened to work in the educational sector back then so you can't afford to not be serious, and he's a disciplinarian.
And I kept on doing and giving my best to everything that I do. I'm not even the type to cause trouble or be found committing atrocities, so I just live my life doing honest work... Since they said effort=result.
But then, something began to change, as I began to see life and understand things more, I began to question a lot of things. I saw people who are very hard working and doing their best still seem to be stagnant. I saw how people go to their place of work, some open shops and all, yet they all lament at the end of the day.
Earlier this year, I met a friend of mine who we were both in the same class some few years back. and I couldn't even complain of my own situation to him, cause it's obvious life is dealing with us all. He said a lot and I can't but feel bad at the state of things. A very brilliant boy at that.
Then on the other side you see others who aren't even doing that much but are doing very well. All they just needed is know someone, make a phone call and that's it. While in camp some months back, I got close to a lady and we began to talk. While everyone of us was waiting till the closing of the camp to know where we were being posted to, this lady already knew where she was going a week into the camp.
And I'm being serious here, I saw her call the state coordinator and said, "Morning, sir. Emi omo doctor ni." Meaning "Morning, sir. This is doctor's child." I was like... What 😯. She asked the man about her PPA and told him she didn't want to be posted to a school or a village and all of that. The man asked her to come see him in the office in the evening that he will work it out.
And here's someone like me that knows nobody 😁, funny how this life is. And seeing the way life works makes me more aware. Because in all honesty, hardwork is good and it is important but you can't say working hard is enough, you will just work and walk your way into poverty, lack, and frustration if you're not being wise and smart.
I have a friend while still in school, he made it known to me that he's only in school for the certificate, when I disturbed him with questions, he opened up to me that it's just so that any one wouldn't question the position he will be taking after school. Meaning there's a job waiting for him immediately after school, and he might not even need the certificate if not because some staffs or workers who are already there might question his qualifications or whatever. This is the life we are in.
And it doesn't mean that we shouldn't put effort into whatever we are doing, we just need to be smart too and connect. Because realizing the way the world works and how this life no balance can frustrate you in it's own.
So, put God first, keep doing your best, don't give up, be smart, be wise, connect, learn, unlearn, relearn and don't stop moving forward. Stopping or giving up shouldn't even be a part of your options. Opportunities will come your way very soon and there won't be any reason for you not to be a part of it
