We all know how important money is in our day-to-day life and activities, talk of feeding, transport, rent, nepa bills, hospital bills and all...even most of the decisions we make revolves around it. It is just so important that we can call it our means of surviving, because when you're broke, you get destabilized. So, when you help someone, especially with money they feel happy and great, because today we all can now see how hard it is to make money and how helpful and great a tool money can be as well.
If you find someone who's been hungry for days now, even if you have a better solution to his predicament, something that will sort and settle him for life, he will hardly listen to you except you sort the most important pressing matter of that moment for him, which is food. Someone who needs transport to go home, and is thinking of trekking to his home which is a long distance away, giving such a person money at that moment is the best. No matter how rich, hardworking, popular, talented, good, and famous a person is, once you're without money, living starts to look somehow.
This reminds me of when I was sick and on the hospital bed, I had a out three different skills then, but I couldn't do any of it on the hospital bed that I was, I had very little saved up and it ha been exhausted even from the first day of my sickness. My parents and siblings were the one running helter skelter just to make sure the bills are being sorted, at that moment, what do you think I need most, is it a skill or money. It is money, I need money, it would help me clear my outstanding bills and pay for the next forms of treatment that I will be needing to get out of bed. A skill can't save my life at that time, even if it was something I would be doing online, I still can't do it because the illness isn't small, I couldn't even make use of a phone. Money is the best help as at then.
But then, I think empowering people with skills is better for most charity works being done today. Giving people money will only solve few days problem for them, should they now come back in a weeks time to collect another...? A skill can set them up for life. That's why we see a lot of people today saying, "don't give me fish, teach me how to fish." Meaning, don't always give me money, teach and show me how to make money. Skills won't just allow them to cater for themselves but will as well allow them to support others and their families as well.
What I'm saying in essence is that, skills will give independence and long-term growth. But then, both skills and money is important, depending on the situation, that was why I cited my own lived experience as an example. There are times that the best and wisest help you can render is to give out money, while other times its way better to empower people with skills that could set them up for life. So, that balance is needed, and it will help people to not only survive but be able to build something for themselves.
