Happy #mondaytrance everybody! Only thing I like about the start of our week. Fired up the old iTunes library and did some digging. Both of these tunes feel similar in a way. They would probably sound good together if you mixed them back-to-back in a set.
"Irufushi" by Super 8 & Tab is this high energy, whirling banger released off Anjunabeats back in '09. 2007-9/10 was my favorite era of trance and Anjunabeats in particular because that was right when I started getting into dance music. I'm a little biased, yea. I don't think I'll ever get sick of this record though.
Super 8 & Tab start you off with a pounding, ripping beat for the first two and a half minutes and then they throw you high up into the air where you're suspended. Three minutes in and they have this beautiful, longing, emotional section that slowly builds into a climactic burst of all of the previously mentioned sensations. All the right ingredients at the perfect amounts create one of the best trance songs I've come across.
The second song "Cadence" is by Oliver Smith, who has contributed a fuck ton of great songs to the label over the years. Whenever I see his name pop up on the Anjunabeats compilations I make a mental note to really stop what I'm doing so I can break down the song. The beat comes in at a little over a minute and its just got this SICK whirling effect that I think is one of the coolest sounds I've heard. The way they insert it into that pummeling percussion is OOF. Pure pleasure.
I always feel a little bad for people who brush off Trance as corny. At the end of the day, they're the ones who lose a potentially incredible life experience because they don't want to open their mind. Speaking of opening minds - a lot of the trance I listen to is from the Anjunabeats/Above & Beyond sphere, so if you have any other great DJs/labels to recommend please do! I'm all ears.
