Art runs in our Family - this is an original painting by my distant uncle who lives in Volcano, Hawaii. He has been an artist for the last 30 plus years, making block prints. My whole life his art has been around me. His work still lines the hallways of my parents home. This is one of two paintings that I have of his. In this piece the fire goddess Pele is sleeping beneath the steaming lava field. In her dreams she encounters her love - Lohiau for the first time. I really enjoy the composition and the colors of this painting. Detrichs style can be felt throughout the art. Below is a close up of Pele dreaming.
