Hello and a good Saturday to you fine people!
Today I am sharing my latest painting, which is a new self portrait made with watercolor.
This time I didn' take any process photos, but I'm going to share with you the materials that I have been using for my paintings so far.
The painting was made on my new favorite paper, Hahnemuhle bamboo paper, and was painted with these awesome colors from Gansai Tambi.
This boxs is around 20 Euros which I think is a great price for the quality!
I find that the colors are very rich and the pigments are very ''true''. By this I mean that I find them to be natural and earthy vs. more candy like. In my experience usually when you go for less expensive brands they compremise on the quantity of pigment and the result is a bad synthetic versions.
www.dickblick.com describes Gansai Tambi as;
Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors are handcrafted, professional-quality Japanese watercolors with a highly blendable, creamy-smooth consistency. The colors are rich and intense, and exhibit greater opacity than European or American watercolors in traditional Japanese style.
I have the Assorted Colors, Set of 12 which contains; White, Black, Scarlet Red, Red, Wine Red, Lemon Yellow, Light Brown, Brown, Mid-Green, Green, Blue, and Deep Blue.
To sum it up, if you havent tried this brand of watercolors, I highly recomend it! :)
The brushes are the campus version of Raphael.
These brushes are pretty cheap but I think the quality does me just fine. I actually always used to find that the brand and qualiti of a brush was rather insignificant when I painted with oils, but now I do feel the importance of it a lot more when I'm working with watercolor. How ever I am not going to spend a fortune on brushes. I think its one of those things, if you have no idea what you are doing a super expensive brush is not going to save you anyways,and if you DO know what your doing I think you will be able to work wonders with a reasonable brush as well.
