Greetings and blessings.!
Race day in my little town. Today I participated in the second edition of the Villa las Azucenas 2026 Challenge, a race that combines cycling and running on a very tough route to the White House on the Mountain. The event started at 7:00 a.m. While everything was being set up, we set off at 7:30 a.m.—the runners first. For us, it was a 4.5-kilometer course, 3.5 kilometers of which were nothing but steep climbs. On the first kilometer, everyone took off like a shot; I held back, monitoring my heart rate strategy. I knew I had to save energy for what was coming—it was really tough, and it had challenged me many times in training. Many runners started slowing down, and others began walking as soon as we started the first climb. I kept my strides short and controlled. Every kilometer felt like an eternity; it was like running an extra kilometer for every kilometer. I stayed calm, passing my competitors one by one. When I felt I was leaving them behind, on one of the steepest climbs, I walked a few meters to recover for the last kilometer, which seemed to go on forever. My daughter and husband were waiting for me at the finish line, and that gave me strength—especially when my daughter came up to me and said, “Mom, you’re the first woman to finish.” That gave me the fuel I needed to cross the line.
I crossed the finish line with my legs shaking, but I was so happy. I told myself, “I did it!” Thank God I recovered quickly, and I was thrilled to be the first woman to finish. I had dreamed of this, and thank God everything turned out just as my heart had longed for. I received congratulations from all my fellow runners and my family, since it’s such a tough challenge. Being the champion is truly a wonderful moment of glory; I felt like a hero. It’s my first podium as the overall champion—it really is possible with discipline, focus, perseverance, and a lot of patience. My time was 38.2 minutes. I received the medal from the city mayor. I’m grateful for this wonderful experience, a wonderful event, excellent organization, and a special sporting atmosphere—with the strong conviction that these are the kinds of environments I enjoy and where I always want to be to live these experiences, especially when I share them with my family and friends, for a lifestyle I want to keep enjoying. Races are the culmination of our training. 💕💕🏃🏽♀️➡️
