Rosee festival is the time of the year that is the most pleasant and most anticipated by all the residents of the town of Kazanlak. It is the time when the oil giving roses start to bloom and their aroma is like everywhere around! The oils from these Damascus Roses are extracted by the rose flowers and then used in the perfume industry. The roses that grow around Kazanlak and Karlovo are said to give the best quality oil on the planet.
We have broad fields with rose plantations on the skirts of the mountain. And views in the late spring are so breathtaking! The weather is still not that hot and you can enjoy green peaceful colors everywhere. And all these roses that bloom and bdeliver their amazing aroma!
This certainly gives all the people a lot of positive emotions and festive spirit and so my morning started quite great, although the kids woke me up before 7:00 AM. I started my day with an espresso shot… and what a shot this was!

First of all, stirring and playing with the coffee to disturb all the fines evenly, brings me a lot of nice vibes in the early morning. I cannot start fast and this really helps me and gives me some time to wake up a little bit more.

The machine is already warm and ready to brew. The coffee that I am enjoying is the one from the last week, but rather than ot filter I am having it on the espresso machine. I tend to like it a lot more here, which os quite unusual for me, but really the filter does not show the whole potential of this Colombian gem.

The espresso machine gives me this concentrated sourness that I seek so desperately in the Anaerobically processed coffee beans. And yes, it becomes a lot more fruity and tasteful. Amazing!

But now let’s get back to the main topic, tue Rose festival!
You all know, if you follow my posts regularly, that the Specialty Place coffee shop offers very beautiful and artistic desserts. Last week during our visit, we were wondering which coffee to choose. We had two choices… One from Butundi and the other from Indonesia.

And while we were thinking guess what appeared in front of us… A rose!!!

Niki and Misho were keeping this one a secret and they gave us one to try it. You know that they sometimes seek the opinion of their regular customers about some recipe they are building about special occasions, just like the festival. They wanted to know if the rose aroma and taste is ok or it is too much or little… and here they wanted it to be like an aftertaste in the mouth.

The dessert had a raspberry jam inner core that was a relatively stronger taste, but the roses were definitely in the fine aftertaste. The biscuit on the bottom was like a cheescake base, very crunchy and buttery. Overall I would give this dessert 9/10. I take out one point, because I really don’t like that much sweetness, and although this was very balanced, it was still sweet for me. Maybe it was okay, when we split it with my wife.
Anyway… we chose the Indonesia coffee for its carbonic natural process and we were happy with that. We had it lat week on espresso and it was still amazing.

I am still a bit sad, because I haven’t tried a coffee from Burundi, and this was my golden opportunity, but I think that if the country produces good coffee, I will most likely have the opportunity to taste one, sooner or later! The Indonesian one was also preferred by Misho so it was his reccomendation too.

What do you think? Do you like the dessert look? Do you think you will enjoy one with a fine rose aftertaste? You are always welcome in our town, in the first week of June when the air is full of roses. Of course you will be able to enjoy some delicious coffee and sweet treats. Be welcome!
So that’s for today… see you again next week. Wish you a brew-tiful weekend full with coffee emotions!
Bye!
