We will move to one of the largest islands of St. Petersburg - Petrogradsky Island, which is part of the Petrogradsky district of St. Petersburg. Here we can see the Orthodox Cathedral of the Prince Vladimir Cathedral. The temple belongs to the Russian Orthodox Church. At this place was originally built the wooden church of St. Nicholas in 1708. Later, in 1713 - 1719, the Dormition Church was built. In 1740, next to the Assumption Cathedral by decree of the Empress Anna Ioannovna a stone church was laid. The project involved all the same famous architects Mikhail Grigorievich Zemtsov and Pietro Antonio Trezzini. The building was almost built, but the daughter of Peter the Great-Elizabeth Petrovna-rose to the throne in 1742 and the construction of the temple was suspended. In 1765, the architect Antonio Rinaldi developed a new project for the construction of a five-dome cathedral and construction was carried out from 1766 to 1773. In 1772 there was a fire. The Assumption Cathedral was destroyed and the temple under construction was damaged. In 1783, the work on the creation and restoration of the cathedral was resumed. The works were supervised by the architect Ivan Egorovich Starov. In 1789 the works were finished and the church was consecrated in honor of the holy prince Vladimir.
Prince Vladimir Cathedral - a monument of architecture is still in effect. Many believers come to this cathedral today.
