Gooooood day Hivians I hope you are well, strap yourselves in because on today's visit we soar amongst the clouds in Melbourne's current tallest building the Eureka Tower. We say current because in construction is a new tower being built which will he even taller. But we'll visit that one once it's finished.
Located in the south bank precinct in Melbourne sits the current mixed use tower. Home to businesses, cafes and residential apartments the Eureka Tower towers over everything else soaring a whopping 297.3 m or 975 ft.
Completed on 1 June 2006 and officially opened on 11 October that same year the Eureka Tower is Melbourne's tallest building with its own sky deck which we visited and got some wonderful shots of the 360 degree unobscured view.
It was also the world's tallest residential tower until the completion of the Ocean Heights in Dubai.
Many of Melbourne's famous land marks can be spotted such as the St Paul's Cathedral which was constructed in 1931. Many a weddings and ceremonies are still conducted today.
If you're in Melbourne there is probably no more famous place then the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) or The G. Don't be alarmed by its name. Where officially created for Cricket and still is used for such. It is more famously known for the Australian Football League which dominates as Australia's number 1 sport.
Construction officially completed in 1853 and undergone many renovations.
Federation Square is also a well known land mark. Chances are if you're a local you hate it. A big concrete slab of things and stuff and designed as a central point that has many art works and events over the year. But in my opinion looks ghastly. It is a point of discussion and still a relatively new addition to the city only being constructed in 2001 but undergoing many renovations since the 50s.
Another beautiful shot of The G
Just some pictures of buildings
More boring buildings.
A shot of Melbourne's oldest train station Flinders Street Station and connects much of the state to the city. The station officially opened in 1854 and averages 77,153 trains per day. It is Australia's longest platform and fourt largest in the world. (Aussies don't like building new stations we just keep adding to what's there and then we wonder why we have congestion issues)
In the 1920s it was the world's busiest passenger stations. The main building was finally completed in 1909 and has become an icon of Melbourne. (We also are slow at building things?)
A zoomed in pic of Fed square.
If you're planning on visiting Melbourne, Australia than don't forget to pop past the Eureka Tower and go for a wonder around the Sky Deck there is a cost between $16 - $25 per person with family discounts as well as night viewing options and a cook cube that projects you out of the building but that will cost you more. I never tried it, didn't have the cash at the time.
A must do venture if you're in the area!
