I saw 's post about his backpack as he goes nomad these few days and it reminded me of my old backpack that has the same color as his. I haven't posted anything today so I thought I'd post it as a color challenge entry.
This is my REI Talus 50 backpack, my 15-year old backpack. I still fill it with stuff and display it in my room even if I no longer use it because I can no longer carry a huge backpack due to my chronic illness. It's just a reminder of who I once was. I used to love hiking and climbing mountains back in my college days. I used to carry this bag filled with everything even the overhead compartment. Those were the days... I prolly carry 35 kilos of load behind me or even more. I remember I was known to carry a load of 12 kilos of food for a 3-day hike. LOL This is also the reason I do not know how to pack light. Whenever I pack, it's as if I am in some survival situation or some post apocalyptic era. I'm a kind of a pack rat, I hoard all stuff I can carry when I feel like I can use them in survival. LOL
I remember I got this back in 2003, I was in college. My friend, named Malaya gave it to me as a gift from the US. It's a gift so I took extra care of it, even if this is something that I use for extreme outdoors. It is still in good condition now, after 15 years. But all my old backpacks are actually in good condition but this one is the oldest of them all. I think I am a backpack person, because I do not care much about any other bags than my backpacks.
I wonder how long this backpack will age? It is no longer available in the REI website, it has long been phased out. According to their website, this color is Tidal Blue. I think REI is a good brand. This is my only backpack with that brand but I can say it's really a tough one. The rest of my backpacks are locally made here in the Philippines and the brand is Habagat.
Oh man, this bag brings a lot of good wonderful memories. I'm gonna keep it forever, if I can. It kinds of make me feel blue staring at it because it reminds me of a past I can no longer go back to but at the same time it makes me happy because I once was that. The feeling is just wonderful.
I'm thinking I should make a review about it but I just saw their website and it said it's one of their phased out products, which is understandable because it's an old model. This is how it used to look brand new... Image Souce
