I love a restaurant that has specialty dishes. I don't really go for restaurants that have a million things on the menu. I want quality over quantity. Max's Restaurant is one place I frequently go to, it's a Filipino restaurant I would recommend to friends and family because they would be so at home with the ambiance and the menu. Fried chicken is their specialty, after all, the place is called, "The House That Fried Chicken Built." However, recently, I fell in love with their kare-kare. Kare-kare is distinctly Filipino, it's a kind of beef stew with thick and savory peanut sauce. It's made with lots of veggies in the mix plus you will be served with a shrimp paste to accentuate the taste of this dish and to give you a little appetizer on the side.
I used to visit Max's because of their chicken and I love the feel of the ambiance that's way better than fast food but with the comfort and convenience of a low/mid-end kind of dining and the affordability, of course. Now that I have tried their kare-kare, it made me love them even more. Max's have select choices of Filipino food, their menu is not overloaded with many things but the quality and the satisfaction of each of the serving you get is really worth your money. Like right now, this is my new go-to place to fix my kare-kare cravings.
They served kare-kare on top of the rice, it looked like a rice bowl meal and I love how they added a banana leaf on the plating. In other restaurants, they'd usually serve kare-kare ala carte and then give you a platter of rice. Relatively, this is priced low than the kare-kare in other restaurants.
Service-wise and the venue, it's definitely two of the reasons why I frequent this place. I love how you just come and sit and they take care of everything and everyone is nice and courteous. The place is not crowded because it's spacious and it's not fast food. Most of all, you see and feel Filipino culture all over the place.
This place is a must-try and their menu would satisfy you if you are in for chicken and Filipino dishes like kare-kare. A place you'd be proud to bring friends and family to.
