I went jogging this Saturday morning. Just about 6 kilometers away from home was Ofankor; a community which is an entry into Accra, the capital city of Ghana.
It is a simple and lovely community; one thing about the place is that food items are relatively cheaper at the busstop close to the main overpass. Since most vehicles from farming communities enter Accra through Ofankor, they usually offload some items like pineapples, yams, onions and snails to the wholesalers in the community.
At the station I met several traders. One woman offered a pineapple for GHC 1.00 (approximately $0.23)! Whereas another woman sold a set of 4 smaller pineapples or a set of 3 large pineapples were sold for GHC 2.00 (approximately $0.45).
Many other items were sold at affordable prices. Just 6km away from the normal prices of GHC 2.00 and GHC 3.00 for one pineapple. So I bought 11 pineapples for GHC 9.50 (approximately $2.50)
So after a grueling run I treated myself to some pineapple smoothies. lol.
Check out Ofankor anytime you visit Accra. You might just discover some juicy and affordable items to buy.
