This was my first experience making bread and butter pickles. Turns out it is pretty easy.
Simply cut the cucumbers up and fit them into sterilized jars, prepare the pickling liquid, and pour it over them. The pickling liquid comes from a seasoning packet made by Mrs. Wages. It's mixed with a specified amount of sugar and vinegar, then heated to boiling. I used the quick process mix that will have the cucumbers converted to pickles in one day. Once the jars are filled, simply process using the water bath canning method and it's finished.
I started with 4.5 pounds of cucumbers, 11 of the pickling cucumbers from the garden. So far my crop of cucumbers has been very good with production increasing since it started. Initially there would be 4 or 5 cucumbers every two to three days but now it's up to 4 or 5 per day. There will be plenty of cucumbers to make dill pickles and pickle relish later this summer.
