This international highway runs through the Cottian Alps pass at an elevation of 2,102m above the sea level the Cottian Alps and also it runs through Italy.
The road is all gravel and very dangerous.
The road in the Col de la Boaire area closes from November 1 to March 31 because of the heavy snow and avalanches.
At times during the winter, heavy snow may block areas of the road and there is the possibility of an avalanche at any time.
