Hi friens ^^
I have been writing about my journey through the crypto space for a while now and lately, my focus has shifted from investing in cryptocurrencies to play-to-earn games. This allows me to have fun and earn a little money at the same time.
The two games I spend the most time on are Gods Unchained, a trading card game, and Sorare, a fantasy football game, but I try to look into other projects as well to find some new gems.
One potential gem I have had my eyes on for quite a while now is Farsite.
Farsite
Overview
Farsite certainly is one of the more ambitious blockchain gaming projects out there:
Welcome to the restless Universe where everything is owned by players, ensured on a distributed ledger enhanced by a revolutionary cNFT protocol.
Every game item is an NFT created by a player.
Items could be freely traded on the open market.
Driven by players, custodians of the game.
While the gameplay has not been launched, yet, there is already a lot to see in Farsite.
You can already purchase ships and components as well as sectors on planets that will allow you to mine resources in the pre-alpha phase.
If you sign up now (feel free to use my signup link), you get a small ship of the kind you can see on the screenshot and you can participate in the airdrop of a few other in-game items by completing more or less simple tasks.
Farsite is planning to create a complete universe with player-owned economics based on NFTs designed for Eth2. All items in the game will be owned and also created by players which should lead to a very interesting dynamic.
To create an item, you need to find or purchase blueprints and the necessary resources for the item. While I suspect most valuable blueprints will be in the hands of a few big spenders at some point, there should be enough value-adding occupations like mining or transporting for players with smaller purses as well.
Since the game economy will be mostly (or fully?) driven by player interactions, it is hard to predict how the game function exactly but I´d imagine an experience close to games like X: Beyond the Frontier.
There is an extensive guide to the game that details all plans the developers have for gameplay, economy, and roadmap that I encourage everyone to browse through if you are interested in this game.
Play to Earn
How much you´ll be able to earn from playing Farsite is still unclear and will depend a lot on the development of Farsite´s economy.
The way you´ll be able to earn money is clearer, though. The in-game currency “credits” will be used to pay for resources, items, and services in the game so whenever you sell something, you´ll earn credits.
These credits will be pegged to the $FAR token which will be introduced in phase V of Farsite´s roadmap (we´re in phase IV currently) and can be traded on crypto exchanges.
Roadmap
The pre-alpha is scheduled to launch on December 14th and should be open to anyone with a ship. It is not 100% clear to me whether or not the free starter ships are included in this or not. This phase should allow players to try out the most basic gameplay mechanisms like mining, refining resources, and exploring planets.
A timeline for the further roadmap has not been announced, yet, but I´d expect the gameplay to evolve into a proper game throughout 2022.

Conclusion
As mentioned before, Farsite definitely is one of the most ambitious blockchain gaming projects I have seen so far and I hope they can deliver on everything.
I have not invested any money in this project, yet, but I am certainly thinking about it. If I can join the pre-alpha with my starter ship, I will give regular updates on the game and probably buy a few crates to enhance my gameplay experience.
If you think this game might be for you, follow Farsite on Twitter for updates and if you are interested in play to earn in general, I suggest you follow me as well.
Enjoy !
