🕹 Moalboal, Cebu, Philippines
While walking the narrow streets in my rural village today, I had pleasant encounters with many locals. My observation is that the jolly and friendly attitudes of Filipinos is unchanging. However, it got me thinking of these things:
1. What are the priorities of Travellers (solo & females especially)
2. Will travellers in general have new priorities in the future, and what will countries have to do to ensure they're positive and foremost in the thoughts of travellers booking itineraries?
Solo travelling is rare for me personally, as I tend to travel with my husband , but that's not the case for many others. In recent years, the demographics of travellers include a significant number of single women (wiser ones and young ones) venturing off to different locations across the globe to fulfill various desires.
Some of the reasons besides the sun and the sea, why people opt to travel (alone or with others) to tropical and exotic destinations are:
- to explore villages, and be able to capture idyllic travel photos,
- it's easier to plan because you have the freedom and flexibility to go with where your heart leads you,
- it's a great way to meet other travellers and like-minded people, and
- a great opportunity to build lasting friendships.
However, whether it be the cheaper alternative of backpacking, or on a more luxurious scale, there's one thing that's always priority - personal safety.
Well, I'll always say that there is good and bad everywhere, and when one thinks of perhaps a "Casanova", I strongly doubt that a Filipino man is the first image that comes to mind, as Filipinos are so family-oriented and somewhat traditional.
Yes, there are oglers everywhere, but I can honestly say that for the most part, Filipinos are friendly, jovial and harmless, with captivating smiles. Therefore, yes, Philippines is STILL a destination with islands, towns, and some cities that are suitable and safe for single ladies to travel and explore with confidence - kudos Philippines
Really, there are so many beautiful destinations across the globe that offers so much. Still, the Philippines is one of the cheaper locations in terms of goods, merchandise, accommodation and adventures.
Notwithstanding the assurance of personal safety, will travellers begin to exert more scrutiny of health and safety, quality over quantity or will "the people" remain supreme as the strongest selling point in determining where travellers choose to visit?
I'll continue to be vigilant and sensible with my exploring around my village, as I love my Wednesday Walk and things that Make Me Smile initiated by &
respectively.
There's so much to see in so many simple things and places.
