One of the finest attractions you can never wish to miss, if you are into tours and travels, is birds.
On Saturday 24th/03/2018 i took a tour at Entebbe zoo in Uganda and captured these photos of the elegant and beautiful Grey crowned crane.
This bird has always mesmerized me, so you should know i had to take some photos of it.
And to here share with you some of the exciting facts about this bird, which is actually the National bird of Uganda.
The Crane is a tall bird that standing on long-slender black legs, rises well above 3ft. With a neck that is nearly as long as its legs, it has, towards their base, pointed pearl-grey feathers that elongate forming an ornamental fringe.
About 16 different species of Cranes exist the world over. Four (4) of these are found in Africa.
Elegant, beautiful
The tail feathers, which are somewhat short, have the color of dried straw. The eye-catching velvety and black forehead, including the yellowish crest as well as the bright red wattles, gives the crested crane a powerful elegance.

They are faithful.
Cranes are monogamous! This is where they differ from us humans, No? Yes. They pair for life. Granted, they may appear in flocks in any given breeding area, but crowned cranes will finally choose and separate in pairs and nest singly.

They are romantics
Crowned cranes will perform several courtship displays. They are fine dancers during which their grace and beauty are to the fullest displayed. With their wide open wings held high above from the back, they twirl, curtsy and round each other. And to sum it all, the crane will finally, with the beak pointed to the sky-end, let out through a fully inflated throat, a deep and booming love call.
Inhabitation/dwelling
Crowned Cranes overall inhabit dry areas as well as wet areas, including damp fields, marshes, and along open lake and river margins. They are not associated with open water. They control territories reaching as far between 1 to 1.5 km2. Both sexes defend their territory.
Food
The bird eats plant and animal matter, ranging from grass and sedge seeds, field crops such as rice, millet, corn, peace, crustaceans, mollusks, insects such as flies and grasshoppers, reptiles, and amphibians. They either peck at their food or for the case of plants, up root them.
