Silicon Valley firms have jointly funded Y Combinator to begin the process of distributing $1,000 per month to US residents to track the effect over a 3 to 5 year span. In exchange for the "free" money recipients will be free to engage in the activities provided by the tech giants 24/7.
"Several tech billionaires including Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk and Richard Branson have publicly talked about how a universal basic income could tackle poverty and the potential for mass unemployment as more jobs become automated."
