Laughter is always the best medicine...
I have been on this earth now for almost 41 years. The only two things that I am completely certain of...
Life Sucks
Unless you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, chances are, you've had to fight tooth and nail to get where you are right now. I have come to realize that even the smallest of tasks can turn out to be disastrous and this seems to be the never ending pattern in life. The last couple of months have been challenging, to say the least. I have had the notion that it's very possible that someone is burning a black candle with my name all over it. Now, while I would love to find this person and punch them square in the throat... there's really only one way to handle these challenging situations.
Laugh.
Humor can be found in any situation and if not, then sometimes you simply have to laugh because it's better than the alternative of balling your eyes out all day. Who wants to sit there with their face leaking fluids all over the place while your eyes are red and you are having trouble catching your breath because of all the sobbing you're doing. I'd rather not.
Death is Certain
No one makes it out of this life alive. I have had my share of having to say those painful good bye's... enough to last me a lifetime. But unfortunately, as I get older, I realize that those good bye's will become more frequent. These experiences have led me to the decision of not having a funeral. When I die, I want to be cremated and I want the people who love me to have a huge, kick ass party with alcohol and good food, and I want them to remember all the times we laughed together. I want them to remember the stupid things I did or said, and the harebrained ideas that I've had. I want them to play and joke and make fun and light of the situation.
My last will and testament will state to have a crawfish boil, drink some adult beverages and...
Laugh.
Humanity has unquestionably one really effective weapon—laughter. Power, money, persuasion, supplication, persecution—these can lift at a colossal humbug—push it a little—weaken it a little, century by century, but only laughter can blow it to rags and atoms at a blast. Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand. — Mark Twain
I wanted this post to be funny but felt it was important to show how necessary it is to find the humor in things. It's not easy to be funny on cue and when given this topic I thought... hmm... humor.. that should be easy. HA!! I was wrong.
As I sit here staring at the screen, not being happy with the first half of this post, I have a feeling that I will not like the last half of this post either. The pressure is turning my brain to mush. I need my mouse to jump on his wheel but once again he is refusing. So, let's try a poem...
They say laughter’s the best medicine
On that I would have to agree
Without humor in your life
Where on earth would you be?
You’d be crying in your soup
Always wishing you were dead
But you must find the humor
When a bird poops on your head
Life is always lurking
Ready to knock you down
It's always better to laugh
Than to go down with a frown
When life gives you lemons
You make lemonade
Let's add some tequila
And have a freaking parade
Life is way too short
To be serious all the time
Life is what you make it
It really can be sublime
My buddies must know this
Cause every Monday at Three
We get together and laugh
It’s the best place to be
We cackle like hens
Whenever we get together
And while we’re all different
We’re still birds of a feather
Cal enjoys pimping
While he hiccups after drinking
Wolv messes with Tam
What the hell is he thinking?
Bluefin’s crude humor
Makes us throw him under the bus
Jeremy’s usually pretty quiet
Never making a fuss
Dreem stares out the window
And her voice gets all serene
Andy’s poems make us chuckle
The tears of laughter start to stream
Pen and his penderisms
Unique in the way he thinks
By the time the show is over
We are all tickled pink
Find a way to laugh
When all you want to do is cry
Laughter is the best medicine
You should really give it a try
Don't take life so seriously y'all. Life is hard, laughter gets you through it. You can find the funny if you look hard enough.
This has been my Drop in the Ocean post about Humor for the awesome BuddyUP community.
