Hello Hive
It’s a beautiful day to plant water leaves. We had a heavy downpour over the night and the ground is soft and cool. Water leaves is one of my favorite vegetable aside fluted pumpkins. They are both nutrient rich vegetables and I love water leaves specially for their taste i meals. My neighbors uprooted the last bunch of the water leaves plant I had at home yesterday.
That particular bunch has germinated and grown on its own when the raining season started, I was hoping that it will produce some seeds soon enough so that I can disperse them across the space but that didn’t happen, I wasn’t at home when she came to pluck the water leaf plant in which she ended up cutting it down to it’s root.
I decided to purchase some water leaf plant from the market yesterday and after I had removed the leaves and used them for my meals I decided to propagate the stems this morning.
I just learnt that the stems can rejuvenate and grow again after harvest. Before now I only usually used to plant this veggies using its seed. Water leaves often produce its seed in pods like this.
Once the pods have matured up and become ripe I just plug and disperse them in the field . From here anyone that is viable will germinate and grow to give me some veggies.
But now that I have learnt that I can plant the stem I decided to give it a try.
I started by digging up the soil with hoes and then I picked the stem and dipped in the soil at intervals. I had to plant this the very same way I understood how we used to transplant our peppers then .
We usually transplant peppers in two, I did this one the same way. It’s my first time if planting water leaves using this stem and this method, let’s see if this survives and can be used as a means of propagation for this particular vegetable.
