November, 29 2018:
What's the current win percent
of the current Top 10 players?
Greetings!
Hello again, everyone. As a follow up to my last post looking at leaderboard top win percent, I bring you a simple update of the current top players' win percentages to fulfill your curiosity. The sample size is getting larger so you'd think it would become more accurate and also the deviation slow down eventually. However, that's not necessarily the case because it gets more competitive towards the top! :-) Since battling continues nonstop, I had to arbitrarily snapshot this to make the calculations. I took the screenshot at exactly 12 PM UTC time on November 29th, 2018. Here it is:
Let's see the win percentages:
| Player Name | Total Games | Wins | Percentage |
|---|---|---|---|
| 344 | 235 | 68.3% | |
| 282 | 199 | 70.6% | |
| 123 | 104 | 84.6% | |
| 270 | 189 | 70.0% | |
| 364 | 214 | 58.8% | |
| 354 | 228 | 64.4% | |
| 456 | 282 | 61.8% | |
| 261 | 174 | 66.7% | |
| 273 | 178 | 65.2% | |
| 395 | 246 | 62.3% |

Again, as I observed last time, win percentage varies quite a bit and does not directly define where you stand in the rankings, especially because of the additional variable of win streak (until Diamond League) However, the lowest win rate in the Top 10 was 58.8%, so it does require you win more than half your games. Today
was a significant outlier with a whopping 84.6% win rate (although with a significantly smaller sample size of battles than most of the others.) These numbers are already a half hour "out of date" when I published this, but I'm still doing it manually until I learn how to query the API directly.
These stats are intended to raise questions and stimulate discussion. Right now, win percentage in and of itself is somewhat irrelevant to the
ranking. For the most part, playing as many games as possible is rewarded (with at least a ~60% win rate.) It's also a viable strategy (currently) to stop playing when you reach the top and let others pass you so you can more easily progress. What do you think: should win percentage factor into the game's rewards and/or system of ranking? If so, do you have any specific ideas about how this could be implemented?
