Surely you have ever seen the picture of a person who seems to be holding the Leaning Tower with his hand or someone giving a kick to the moon.
Optical illusions are visual perceptions that do not conform to the reality of the world around us. Not only are games (that too) but they help us understand how we see and how we rebuild the world.
And it is that the optical illusions show that our eyes are not video cameras that record everything that happens, but our brain interprets and reworks the information that our senses provide us.
Basically, our mind tries to find the easiest way to see things and interpret them.
