The latest on Irma is not good news for anyone on the west coast of Florida. The prediction is she will arrive at Cedar Key sometime Monday morning. Cedar Key is a tiny island village of clammers and one of my favorite places on the west coast. It was once heavily populated with cedar trees used to make pencils but that industry is long gone. Not many cedars left on the island these days. It's still very bohemian in nature.
Irma hitting the west side of Florida was unexpected just 24 hours earlier nobody predicted she to take this track. Cedar Key in now being urged to evacuate due to a 6 to 12 foot storm surge. There are many estuaries throughout the area. The University of Florida also has a marine biology facility located on the island.
Traffic here has decreased as compared to yesterday, most people have already made a successful exit. Many evacuees were parked all around our area waiting on gas trucks to arrive and making sure they were heading in the right direction.
Publix grocery stores are closing at 6:00 this evening and people are hurrying to complete their preparations.
Most gas stations in the area no longer have gasoline. The locals like us are filling buckets with water and getting ice for coolers as we expect the power to go out due high winds and falling trees. Winds could be hurricane force for long periods of time.
We have continuous radio coverage right now regarding the storm (pretty unusual) if you are in the area tune into 97.3 FM you can hear the latest from Bob Rose.
It's cloudy here with gusts of wind as feeder bands begin to approach. I am thinking of perhaps making a video and posting it here on steemit the storm passes. Could be as late as Wednesday.
That's all for now, will update when possible.🐓
