Sports betting became quite popular in the recent years and a lot of people like to test their luck an bet these days. Some of them just follow sports regulary and they like to see how much they know about them and some of them just bet just for the money. I have been a gambler for some years and i will like to share with you what i have learned so far. If you want to get into sports betting just for fun or you have gambled for some time now but you lost a lot of money, you can feel free to read and apply some of my advices:
1. Know your craft
All bets are risky and there is always a chance to lose regardless the odds. You should follow regulary the sport you want to bet on (american or european football, tennis, basketball). I am not talking about statistics and other useless things like that. You have to watch a lot of games and study if you want to increase your chances of winning. Studiying results and other things may help you a bit but is not always useful if you don't know the teams or the players you are putting your money on. Some teams just got lucky on some games and they won, despite the fact that they played bad or maybe they lost, despite that they played great. If you bet based only on statistics, you will get burned down pretty fast.
2. Don't chase your losses
This may seem like a no brainer but i made this mistake often and i am sure that a lot of people made it and some of them are still making this mistake. If you lost the money you put on a "safe" bet, don't put whatever you have left on another event you don't have a clue about just to regain that lost money. You have to calm down and be smart. There is always another day. You will find another safer event to bet on and you will probably regain your money back or win even more. You just have to be patient and don't rush.
3. Don't bet with your heart
If you follow sports regulary, you have a favorite team or player and you are tempted to bet on them every week, despite the fact that in some ocassions, that is not a good decision at all. Don't get involved in that. Try to think from outside the box. Does your favorite team really have a chance in the next match ? A realistic chance ? Maybe not, so don't throw money away betting with your heart.
4. Have a realistic goal
If you want to put on a couple of bets and hope for the best, that's fine. However, if you want to make some money from gambling on sports, you have to keep track of your bets. The odds are already stacked against you because this is the real truth. If everyone made a profit from betting, there would not be so manny bookies out there. Have a goal and remain disciplined, regardless if you lose or win big.
These are my advices. I'm sure that some of you may heard most of them already. I did not invent them. I mean, they have been around since the begining but most gamblers don't follow them. I had to learn it the hard way, like everybody else.
One last useful tip: If you want to make money from betting, you want to risk big money. Sometimes the risk is minimal. You have to watch for these oportunities. Don't expect to win big with small stakes, some people did it but don't count on that happening often, maybe not at all.
