Chronicle of a Street Photographer, Day 2./ Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

Greetings, friends of the #blackandwhite community. Classic cars have always been a fundamental part of the documentary photo project I’m working on around the city. I love seeing them at their best—meticulously maintained—and admiring the creativity their owners bring to keeping them running. But at the same time, it fills me with immense sadness to see them abandoned and forgotten.

Saludos, amigos de la comunidad #blackandwhite. Los autos clásicos siempre han sido parte fundamental del registro fotográfico documental que voy haciendo por la ciudad. Me encanta verlos en su mayor expresión de cuidado y la creatividad de sus dueños para mantenerlos funcionando. Pero a la vez me da una tristeza enorme verlos en estado de abandono, en el olvido.

Something like that happened to me while I was walking through the Nuevo Vedado neighborhood in the capital: I came across this classic 1950 Ford Perfect in a terrible state of disrepair.

Algo así me pasó mientras caminaba por la zona de Nuevo Vedado en la capital: encuentro este clásico Ford Perfect de 1950 en un estado de deterioro terrible.

I got the feeling that it had been brought there and left to die, literally. So I sat down nearby and began to imagine how much history it must have; I played out a whole mental movie about this poor car that had reached the end of its days.

Me dio la sensación de que llegó hasta allí y lo dejaron morir, literalmente. Entonces me senté cerca y comencé a imaginar cuánta historia tendría; toda una película mental me hice sobre este pobre auto que llegó al fin de sus días.

I stayed there for quite a while, took several photos, and, strangely enough, it didn’t say a word to me; sometimes the car’s owner shows up when I take these kinds of photos, but it seemed as if no one cared

Allí estuve un buen rato, varias fotos le hice y, lo más curioso, nada me dijo nada; a veces aparece el dueño del carro cuando hago este tipo de fotos, pero pareciera como si a nadie le interesara.

Such a shame 😢—at least I was able to take these pictures of it; I hope some kind soul restores it and doesn’t let it disappear to rust.

Una pena 😢, al menos le pude hacer estas imágenes; espero que algún alma piadosa lo restaure y no lo deje desaparecer por el óxido.
