Greetings, dear friends, how’s your week going so far? My sister and I are always talking about where I’d like to live: in the countryside or in the city? Obviously, I prefer the countryside, although for street life, Havana is the best; there’s just no comparison.

Saludos, amigos queridos, ¿cómo les va en este inicio de semana? A cada rato tengo una charla con mi hermana sobre dónde me gustaría vivir: ¿en el campo o en la ciudad? Evidentemente, prefiero el campo, aunque para street lo mejor es La Habana; eso no tiene comparación.

I’d say it’s a kind of sanctuary; I mean, so much happens on the streets, there’s so much energy, so many emotions collide that it’s hard not to fall in love with this city.

Yo diría que es una especie de santuario; a ver, me refiero a que pasan tantas cosas en las calles, hay tanto dinamismo, se mezclan tantas emociones que es difícil no enamorarse de esta ciudad.

It’s practically a religion to go swimming at the coast, danger and all; it doesn’t matter—these kids won’t even stop for the authorities anymore. “It’s just that we don’t have buses to go to the beach,” one of them told me!

Casi prácticamente es religión bañarse en la costa, peligro y todo; no importa, ya ni siquiera respetando a la autoridad estos chicos se detienen. ¡Es que no tenemos ómnibus para ir a la playa, me dijo uno de ellos!

I sit down to rest and find this bird; it’s endemic and endangered, and its demeanor in the cage says it all.

Por ahí me siento a descansar y encuentro esta ave; es endémica y está amenazada, su actitud en la jaula lo dice todo.

I’m done for here—I know it’s hot, but he really went overboard, I think 😅.

Aquí sí ya morí, yo sé que hace calor, pero a él se le fue la mano, creo 😅.
