It is common practice of most of our homes that we ignore the crying babies but believe me it can lead to some serious problems and have negative effect on their development.
Intense stress during early months of child development can change neurotransmitter system which ultimately lead to structural and functional changes in brain. These are the same changes which we see today in depressed adults. According to microbiologists, cortisol hormone is developed which is toxic for developing brain.
Ignoring crying babies could boost their adrenaline system and increases their violence and aggressive behavior which becomes integral part of his personality later in life. High levels of stress inhibit the development of brain nerve tissues.
"All babies cry. Some cry more than others." But crying, in the first year or so, is the only way a baby can get a response. Denying a response, can have long-term emotional consequences”, says Penelope Leach known as parenting guru.
Continuous crying of babies can even lead to suffocation and they have hard breathing and if we understand they are actually calling for their mommy or daddy to help. The lack of oxygen to brain can kill brain cells.
The growth and immunity system of the crying babies is suppressed and they become vulnerable to many serious diseases. According to study, the infants who got ignored lacked healthy social and intellectual skills and had problems controlling their emotions.
Pain responses are automatically activated when babies are physically away from their parents particularly mother. If separation period is three hours daily, it can produce epigenetic effects which develop stress and memory function is also reduced when they become adult.
Infants have only two ways of communication i.e. crying and smiling. Infants cry due to many reasons which include pain and hunger or other discomforts due to lack of physical contact with mother. Crying must also be received with appropriate response so that child feels that all his/her feelings are fulfilled. The baby who is crying sends message that anger and sadness are not acceptable so he begins to suppress his emotions which make them gloomy.
Now how to calm down crying babies? It can be done by many ways including breastfeeding and creating calm environments and managing sleep routines of the baby. Skin to skin physical contact also stimulates oxytocin, which is hormone of love and affection.
So dear parents will you leave your babies crying and begging for help???
