Lyle Shelton, formerly of the Australian Christian Lobby and now a member of the Australian Conservatives political party, is very fond of the slippery slope argument. Throughout the Australian marriage equality debate, slippery slope arguments were the primary tool used by the anti-marriage equality side, combined with an attempt to engage the backlash against "political correctness".
Now he is claiming that moves (which were already underway) for teaching children that gender and biology are not quite as easily determined as people have thought over the centuries and to revisit the question of paid parental surrogacy are "consequences" of the marriage equality vote.
They aren't consequences, Lyle. No one is arguing that these things should be done "because we have marriage equality". The arguments in favour of every LGBTQI cultural/legal initiative is to increase acceptance of people, add happiness and reduce hatred.
Lyle is fond of complaining about medical interventions to help trans children. Well, Lyle, if we stopped linking biology and gender so fixedly, have you thought that these trans kids may not be so upset by their bodies? Of course you haven't, because you still believe that every single person gets the correct gender assigned to them when they are born, which is an absurd idea.
