Greetings Hivers!
Today I want to talk about something really close to my heart and honestly it is quite terrifying.
We’ve all heard about climate change but for those of us living in Pakistan. It’s not some distant threat in a science fiction movie. It’s our reality right now as we are facing real climate change.
Here is the bitter truth; We aren’t the ones filling the atmosphere with pollution and we certainly aren't the richest nation. But when the weather goes crazy we are the ones who take the hardest hit.

What’s Actually Happening?
If you've been following the news you may know things have been getting intense. Here is a quick look at what we are dealing with not so far👇
The 2022 Floods It felt like the sky literally opened up. A massive monsoon season put one-third of Pakistan completely underwater. We lost over 1,700 innocent lives millions of people lost their homes and the economic damage crossed $30 billion.
Our Glaciers are Disappearing Did you know Pakistan has more glacial ice than almost anywhere outside the poles? But because the world is warming up these glaciers are melting at an alarming rate. Villages in places like Gilgit-Baltistan are constantly terrified of "GLOFs" (Glacial Lake Outburst Floods) which is basically a sudden wall of water and rock wiping out entire communities.
Insane Summer Heat Summers have always been hot here but now places like Karachi Sibi and Jacobabad are regularly crossing 50°C (122°F) even Lahore is now crossing 45°C. It’s so hot that crops are literally burning in the fields and people are getting severely sick just by trying to earn a daily wage outside just for the purpose of living a happy life.
Bizarre Weather The rain patterns are totally broken. One region will face a brutal drought, while another gets a whole month's worth of rain dumped on it in a single night.
The Great Climate Injustice 💔
This is the part that really hurts. If you look at global data, Pakistan contributes less than 1% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
Yet year after year international reports like the Germanwatch Climate Risk Index rank Pakistan in the top 10 most vulnerable places on Earth. We didn't cause this crisis, but we are paying for it with our lives our homes and with our future.
What Can We Do? Giving Up Isn't an Option
It’s easy to feel helpless but change starts with us. We have to push from the bottom up.
Plant Trees Seriously if every single household plants just one native tree, it can make a massive difference in cooling down our neighborhoods.
Stop Wasting Water Our glaciers are our water bank. We need to treat water like it is the liquid gold for us because shortages are coming.
Demand Answers We need to hold our leaders and governments accountable. We need to ask them, What is the plan to protect us?
Ditch the Plastic & Go Solar Switch to solar power if you can afford it and cut down on single use plastics that clog our drains and make floods even worse.
Final Thoughts / Conclusion
Climate change isn't a problem for the "future" anymore. It’s today's flood we are seeing in our life. It’s today’s unbearable heatwave. It’s the rising price of food because crops are failing.
If we don't start making noise and changing our habits today the next generation is going to inherit a broken world and they won't forgive us for staying silent for sure.
