El torneo más famoso de los video juegos ha regresado al cine con violentas batallas, ha comenzado el... "Mortal Kombat"
En 1995 un grupo de amigos y yo vimos lo que fue nuestra primera película basada en video juegos, Mortal Kombat, en esa época estábamos descubriendo ese gran juego y al ver la película estamos muy emocionados por ver al gran número de personajes, este fue un film que a pesar de no ser perfecto, fue correcto, lleno de buenos villanos y héroes con buenas escenas de pelea a pesar de lo limitado de sus protagonistas a realizarlas y es por eso que desde ese tiempo hasta ahora considero a este film estrenado hace 26 años atrás uno de los mejores (son muy pocos) films basados en video juegos. A pesar del primer párrafo en dónde hablo del primer film sobre esta franquicia de vídeo juegos, en este post no haré ninguna comparativa entre ambos films y solo me enfocaré en lo que me pareció esta nueva historia de Mortal Kombat.

The most famous video game tournament has returned to the movies with violent battles, has begun... "Mortal Kombat"
In 1995 a group of friends and I saw what was our first movie based on video games, Mortal Kombat, at that time we were discovering that great game and seeing the movie we are very excited to see the large number of characters, this was a film that despite not being perfect, was correct, full of good villains and heroes with good fight scenes in spite of the limited of its protagonists to perform them and that's why from that time until now I consider this film released 26 years ago one of the best (there are very few) films based on video games. Despite the first paragraph where I talk about the first film about this video game franchise, in this post I will not make any comparison between both films and I will only focus on what I thought about this new story of Mortal Kombat.
Esta nueva historia la cual no considero un remake sino una nueva visión en el cine, es un film regular, al principio tenía buenas expectativas porque se sabía que tendría una clasificación "R" por las escenas de violencia y pensaba que tal vez tuviéramos excelentes escenas de peleas lo cual creo que en esta historia en especial debería tener un gran peso, creo que todo lo antes descrito más la aparición de los personajes clásicos era lo que todos los fans de este juego esperaban al ver en este nuevo film.
This new story which I do not consider a remake but a new vision in the movies, is a regular film, at first I had good expectations because it was known that it would have an "R" rating for the scenes of violence and I thought that maybe we would have excellent fight scenes which I think in this story especially should have a great weight, I think everything described above plus the appearance of the classic characters was what all fans of this game expected to see in this new film.
Simon McQuoid hace si debut como director con este film, esto para mí es uno de los fallos más grande que tiene esta nueva versión Cinematográfica de esta franquicia, este director anteriormente se encargaba de dirigir comerciales y aunque podrán decir que Mortal Kombat no es una historia creada por Shakespeare para considerar a un mejor director, creo que por lo menos se debió contar con alguien que haya dirigido un film (o varios) de acción, no me gustó su visión de los escenarios, no me gustó los cambios de cámara para las peleas, no existe absolutamente nada destacable con respecto al desempeño de McQuoid.
La historia de este nuevo film de Mortal Kombat pienso que es en parte uno de los puntos positivos que tiene, no tuve un problema de que fuera un inicio a lo que se espera de una película basada en este juego, esto es un remake, relanzamiento, como quieran llamarle y creo que estuvo bien que se tomarán libertades para realizar esta nueva historia, mi problema es con respecto al tiempo o importancia que tuvieron algunos personajes y no se les dio a otros y es que para mí existe un mal desarrollo en la historia de "Hanzo Hasashi" también conocido como "Scorpion" y del nuevo personaje "Cole Young" creo que sí se fueran enfocado mucho más en ellos, seguro está vistos fuera sido mejor; otra opinión que tengo y sé que dije que no haría una comparativa entre el film de 1995 y este, pero es imposible no nombrarlo y es que pareciera que las ideas para desarrollar a algunos personajes las tuvieron al hacer lo contrario a como estaban escritos en el primer film, me gustaría entrar en detalles, pero no quisiera hacer spoilers, eso también me da la razón de que se perdió tiempo para hacer mejor las cosas.
Simon McQuoid makes his debut as a director with this film, this for me is one of the biggest failures that this new Cinematic version of this franchise has, this director was previously in charge of directing commercials and although you can say that Mortal Kombat is not a story created by Shakespeare to consider a better director, I think they should have at least had someone who has directed an action film (or several), I didn't like his vision of the sets, I didn't like the camera changes for the fights, there is absolutely nothing remarkable about McQuoid's performance.
The story of this new Mortal Kombat film I think is partly one of the positive points it has, I didn't have a problem that it was a start to what is expected from a movie based on this game, this is a remake, re-release, whatever you want to call it and I think it was good that they took liberties to make this new story, my problem is with respect to the time or importance that some characters had and not given to others and for me there is a bad development in the story of "Hanzo Hasashi" also known as "Scorpion" and the new character "Cole Young" I think that if they had focused much more on them, surely it would have been better if they were seen; another opinion I have and I know I said I wouldn't make a comparison between the 1995 film and this one, but it's impossible not to mention it and it seems that the ideas to develop some characters they had to do the opposite of how they were written in the first film, I would like to go into details, but I don't want to make spoilers, that also gives me the reason that they lost time to do things better.
Las actuaciones, no quiero enfocarme mucho en eso, pero solo diré que se menosprecio el trabajo que pudo hacer Hiroyuki Sanada, creo que pudo tener más minutos en este film y debió ser protagonista de esta historia sin importar las comparativas que pudiera tener con el film animado "Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge" (la cual recomiendo en un 100%), las demás actuaciones son regulares y creo que llegó a una parte de la que puedo decir que no me gustó mucho y son las escenas de peleas, puedo decir en plena tranquilidad que Mehcad Brooks como "Jax" da las peores peleas en esta película, una es peor que otra, no hace un buen trabajo, es aburrido, las escenas son mal actuada y aburridas, todo lo contrario con Jessica McNamee como "Sonya Blade", me gustó mucho su interpretación del personaje y la mayoría de sus escenas de acción, para mí es el mejor personaje de este film, muy bien desarrollado.
The performances, I don't want to focus too much on that, but I will just say that the work that Hiroyuki Sanada could have done was underestimated, I think he could have had more minutes in this film and should have been the protagonist of this story regardless of the comparisons it could have with the animated film "Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge" (which I recommend 100%), the other performances are regular and I think it got to a part that I can say I didn't like very much and that's the fight scenes, I can say in full tranquility that Mehcad Brooks as "Jax" gives the worst fights in this movie, one is worse than the other, he doesn't do a good job, he is boring, the scenes are badly acted and boring, all the opposite with Jessica McNamee as "Sonya Blade", I really liked her interpretation of the character and most of her action scenes, for me she is the best character in this film, very well developed.
Podrán leer mi post y preguntarse "¿Por qué dices que es regular si no te ha gustado muchas cosas?" Mantengo que es regular porque tiene buenas cosas, primero entre sus personajes principales por ejemplo Cole y Blade pueden aguantar el peso de ser protagonistas, las escenas de peleas en dónde están envueltos Cole, Sonya, Scorpion y Sub-Zero, son buenas, no las mejores, pero son entretenidas, no tuve problema con que fuera una historia de origen, que explicará muchas cosas y aunque no me gustan estas películas que piensan en las secuelas antes de tener éxito con un primer film, creo que está puede tener un potencial si se cambia muchas cosas, es muy contradictorio lo que digo, pero tampoco es muy difícil de hacerlo, solo deben encontrar un mejor director, alguien que haga mejor coreografías de peleas y mejores efectos, con eso creo que pueden hacer una buena secuela y quién sabe si otra más, quedará esperar ahora que deciden los altos ejecutivos de WB y esperar si tendremos o no al torneo de Mortal Kombat.
