After getting delayed continuously for a month, the much awaited 'Padmavat' got released. Facing issues because of the glorification of Allaudin Khilji, many of the Rajput community leaders threatened to kill the actors and directors who played a role in making of the film. After, a long controversy the movie gets its release. Sometimes controversies acts like a press. From almost a month, everyday the news of the controversy was talked about in the news. Like they say in showbiz "Any press is good press".
REVIEW:
The movie tells the story of the brave and beautiful queen Padmavati. After getting married to Rathan Singh, she will become the queen of Chittoor. Her beauty will be talked about in all over her kingdom. Soon, Allaudin Khilji gets to know about this. Being power hungry Allaudin conspires to steal the queen away. The movie is the persuit of Allaudin Khilji towards Padmavati and the steps Padmavati takes to protect her honour.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is one of the best directors Bollywood has ever produced. His previous film "Bhajirao Masthani" was also a hit. His eye for the detail and the perfect blend of music gives his films an immersive experience. Being a music director himself gives him an edge while composing the perfect music accordingly with the visuals. Last year a big budget historic film "Baahubali: The Conclusion" was released, but the visual effects weren't convincing enough, though it had a huge budget. Here the most of the scenes were practically made and whatever the visual effects used were picture perfect.
The movies soul is the character Allaudin Khilji, played by Ranveer Singh. He has again proved himself as a great actor. The character is really an interesting one, very unpredictable and power hungry. His presence in the screen sparks imagination of everyone. The scene when Rathan Singh and he will be eating dinner and he switched the plate thinking his plate is poisioned, tells almost everything we want to know about his character in a matter of few seconds.
I don't think the character of Allaudin has been glorified. He was made fun of at several occasions and portrayed as a ruthless monster. For all the controversies the movie doesn't harm the name of any community.
I saw other film critics reviews and I saw that they are rating it really low. Because of the storytelling. I just loved this film. Many were complaining that the movie was really slow paced, but I think it was necessary. Again, this is my personal opinion. I am a sucker for biopics and historic movies. Maybe that is also a reason to like it so much.
CONCLUSION:
Personally I liked this film. I am an art film lover and I am used to slow paced indepth stories. But, many have complained about the storytelling. It depends on the taste. When you see it in a critics lens you may find a lot of flaws, but as a huge fan of historical movies I didn't find much flaws. The characters other than Allaudin Khilji's could have made better.I would give it 7/10
