School-based competitions are essential for 21st-century learners. It is in this event that they will aim to bring home the bacon, as a sign of excellence in the field of academics. If the school organizes academic contests, the students will become more competitive and will be setting a certain target and hit mark. In such a way also, they will be more motivated to study even harder to reach the standard and the main goal.
Our school is fond of school-based contests as we are looking forward to stepping to the next level. From the school to the district and if so lucky to the division level and even to the regional level.
For November, our Science and Math coordinators joined forces together for the search for intelligence and skills in Science and Mathematics, with the theme:Rebuilding Resilient Communities: Embracing Science and Technologies for a Sustainable Future This aroused the eagerness and interest of the students as this will sharpen their skills and knowledge.
Sharpening the knowledge
Different activities were administered. One of these was the Damath. The following were the rules and were discussed religiously by our Mathematics coordinator before the contest started.
⭕ Two players will turn alternately chips that are moving.
⭕Pass is strictly not permitted.
⭕The touch-move policy is strictly observed and used if there is no possible move.
⭕ Every after-the move, has to be recorded by the player on the score sheet given.
⭕The highest score after the completion will be the winner.
The skilled students who can create attractive designs using numbers as patterns to come up with the most unique Modular Arithmetic, were all challenged. They were not lagging in their abilities as this contest was open to all artistic learners.
Another way of testing the students' knowledge is through the Quiz Bee. This is to explore the Mathematical and Scientific Minds of the learners. They have been categorized, the junior and senior high school students.
The extremely tough competition that needs high analysis to solve is the Rubik's Cube. It is really difficult for me to solve however, there are sets of students who easily solved this within seconds. This was such a breathtaking contest. The quickest time in solving, the better.
More emotions were felt by the contestants. Some lost their focus, others were trembling in fear and others surrendered for they weren't able to solve it.
If the students are good at presenting ideas artistically and concisely, the Poster Making Contest is where they will register. This is the best way of expressing their ideas in a documentary way so the public will know about the precise issue that the event is focusing on.
If they think they are good at writing descriptive and have the power to convince the audience through short words, the Slogan Writing Contest. This was still open to all brilliant students who were good at persuading the public.
Self Realization
Being a teacher, I can say I would be the proudest if I could see my learners successful in the future. While they are still in school, the teachers are accountable and will never be tired of keeping track of their learnings.
Through this competition, the students learn to organize, set goals, and develop their skills so they will have a brighter future. This is beneficial in school also as this will boost their self-esteem and teach them that their goals will be attainable if they have a strong will and determination.
Win or lose, they learned to value the true spirit of sportsmanship. The culmination day will commence this Friday, November 24, 2023. Whatever the result is, at least they do these contests fairly, and their treatment of their opponents is good and ethical behavior.
That's all for this blog and thank you for your time. Until then...
