What is light painting?
"Light Painting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph"
is a master at wielding what I call a lightsaber. Those in the know will refer to it as a light wand or light stick. He had a pretty wicked one at that, it could do all sorts of colours and if used correctly it could make awesome photos just like the one below. Go check out the complete photos on his blog
The game plan
We started off by cleaning up the car as best as we could, with only a few minutes left till sunset we decided to go blasting around the area. It was the first time was inside my RX7 FD3S and he really enjoyed it other than being a little cramped in the passenger area.
If you are too lazy to carry on reading, I put together a montage video of what happened. Either way, watch it! It's only a minute long :)
Once we finished messing around on the roads we headed over to my parents house as they have a lot more space in their driveway to achieve these shots than I do.
and I set off to turn off all outdoor lights and move all cars out of the way, including my highly neglected black Mazda RX7 FD3S. Once everything was out of the pay we positions the silver RX7 dead center of the driveway and
began with his magic.
A view through the lens of greatness
I've never seen anything like this, I've only just recently picked up my own DSLR, albeit a cheap and nasty EOS1200d but a DSLR nonetheless and well I have no idea how to shoot cars. The shots was able to achieve with long exposure was absolutely phenomenal. Again if you missed it earlier here's the link to his blog check out the completed photos.
Light Paint my other JDM's?
If I get a decent response from this post and I may consider light painting the R32 GTR, it's difficult to do this with the other two cars as with a black car the lines tend to get a little lost in the dark background. Or so I've heard from the professional :)
