The buddy buddy cop movie is like a dozen other cop movies you have already seen before, but this time with women. Basically it is Lethal Weapon. It is reasonably funny, mostly because of Melissa McCarthy. Oh and Sandra Bullock looks fantastic in it as well.
When I say this is like Lethal Weapon I really mean it. You have one cop played by Sandra Bullock who is straight-laced and generally disliked by her peers because of her stoic and robotic attitude and then we have the loose cannon yet very effective detective played by Melissa McCarthy.
"Biff" from Back to the Future is in this as well
Initially they butt heads because of these apparently incompatible approaches to their job but just like in the dozens of other films that have this exact same premise, they end up figuring out that their polar opposite approaches to the job can actually complement the other's in order to get the job done.
McCarthy is a very funny woman and it is no surprise or accident that a vast majority of the laughs are provided by her and for the most part Bullock is there simply to provide some occasional drama or simply to set McCarthy up and to be a stark contrast to her attributes.
I don't care if you are a big time Hollywood celeb, you do not get to put your drink on the pool table
I thought this movie was just ok so was surprised to find out that it made nearly $200 million at the box office. There was meant to be a sequel but Bullock dropped out of the project, presumably to pursue a real film. This movie isn't terrible and does provide some laughs but it is honestly a cookie-cutter cop film that you have already seen many times before. I wouldn't go out of my way to see this.
